A friend to me who is coin collector asked me info on this piece, so I thought share it with you, may someone can give me indications on how to make difference between a guinine coin and forgery or copy.

Step 1, use a magnet. If it sticks, it is a fake steel 1943 clad in copper.

If it passes the magnet test, Step 2, look closely at the "3" in the date. If it does not have the sharp tail pointing to the left, suspect an altered 1948 or 1949.

After that, you are going to need inspection by a qualified numismatist. There are good chinese fakes around.

I can see a dozen anomalies in the stamping that scream "Fake!".

Makes me think of all those youtube videos of backyard forging operations in Asia. Amazing what they can knock out with a crude drop forge, a bit of hot metal, and LOTS of labor! At least the product LOOKS like a functional item...
