If so, they should use the Brave browser. In a couple weeks of usage, and I am a fairly light surfer, it has now blocked 1,840 trackers and ads! Sheesh!
Pretty good if you ask me. Their search engine is also great, returning hits and NO ads! Have to love that!
Peter
Very interesting as opera and chrome do not access Sir all the time due to the expired certificate. Very annoying. I will check out brave for this site at least
Greg
Yep ... the Brave browser.... very good.
philb,
Are you saying SOR members people contact you to discuss subjects that would normally be in a forum post?
Brave is apparently based on Chrome, if that matters to anyone...
Actually, to be technically correct -
Brave is based on the CHROMIUM Web Browser, which Chrome is based on as well.
This is a quote from their website description;
"Brave is a free and open-source web browser developed by Brave Software, Inc. based on the Chromium web browser, which Chrome is based on as well. Brave is a privacy-focused browser, which automatically blocks online advertisements and website trackers in its default settings. It also provides users the choice to turn on optional ads that pay users for their attention in the form of Basic Attention Tokens cryptocurrency. Users can then send contributions to websites and content creators, which support BAT in the form of tips along with the ability to keep the cryptocurrency they earned"
Hello Angore, i was contacted by someone who used his actual name instead of his Stamporama user name, i did not recognize the name..but after i posted he got back to me. I suppose i am saying there are members who do not feel comfortable posting on the discussion.
" .... there are members who do not feel comfortable
posting on the discussion. ...."
I often look at members bought/sold activity and their
participation in discussions when I decide if I should
bid on their lots.
I do not have a hard and fast rule, but prefer those
members who join in the discussions of SoR as a club.
There re other forums, but few as open and free wheeling as SoR.
I would not automatically assume that someone that does not want to post think it is solely about privacy. Many sellers do not post except to mention their selling offerings. It would be interesting to know why.
We have a core group of posters who are extremely knowledgeable. That is what is great about SOR. The rest of us interject when we can.
I must add that as a novice collector ,anytime that I have posed a question I have been warmly received. No question seems to be posed as silly. I have always felt welcomed and received an abundance of help. Sometimes my spelling is corrected ...but that is ok too. At least it brought attention to my post lol Thankyou members for your help and many have become on line friends
Cheryl
" ... a core group of posters who are extremely knowledgeable ...."
Philatelic knowledge, much as any area of knowledge is simply a
matter of time and experience. Keep an open mind and explore the
vast subjects that circumscribe Philately and one day you will
be reading some query and realize, "GEE whiz Sparky, I knew that."
Experts do not start off as experts, they begin as newbies and
learn from mistakes, both their own and at times, the misguided
efforts of others.
As for extending a friendly helping hand, just about all the SoR
members at sometime experienced either a beneficial helping hand,
as well as, unfortunately, being repulsed by some thick headed
doctrinaire "wannarbe" genius.
So enjoy the first steps to becoming an expert.
"No matter her you go in life, sooner o later, there you are."
Amen Charlie!
It's not just this board... on my other boards for model car builders, I regularly get messages from folks who just don't post for a variety of reasons. Sometimes it's to comment or agree with something I have posted. It's just good to know people are reading!
And I'd be pleased to have anyone post! We need more content here!
I agree, human beings have the gift of thought and speech..we should communicate !
I have about a dozen writers in my stamp club who posted on StampoRama under my account. This way, no one in StampoRama will know who they are. Once a while, a few brave writers would write their real name when posting something. I sometimes encouraged them to open an account in StampoRama so that everyone can get to know them.

" > . . Once a while, a few brave writers would write

Surely we are not that fierce.
In fact, compared to certain other stamp forums
I believe SoR is just about the friendliest and
more often ignores minor rule infractions than
goes the insistence route.
I have frequently laughed at the sometimes silly
(to me, anyway) on-line IDs posters and members
use.
But, I think that allowing others to post under
your name is borderline deceitful.
At this time in the social culture it is almost
ridiculous trying to conceal things rom the ever
present bots that mine data for information.
In esence, it is to late, they already know.
" . . . borderline deceitful . '
I did not mean to sound harsh, but just
to offer a nudge. It was 2AM here, after
all.
But thinking about it further, there is
an easy solution.
If you post a friends comments or information,
begin with something like this;
"My friend Jim, or Dave#2, or Lois wrote; . . "
It need not even be her real street name, but
assigns credit where credit is due.
Charlie, awake and refreshed.
We are very sorry. Take care.
I think I figured something out..
I frequently see 30-50 views on my threads with no responses. Then I realized that this site and the threads are all visible without logging in. Thus, anyone on the Internet can view... and that includes previous members who didn't want to pay for membership, can read but not comment!
I'll bet that's what's going on. While a lot of folks did pay and join, a lot didn't!
"borderline deceitful"

D, as far as I'm concerned I do not find anything wrong with your fellow philatelists posting in your name.
I had always accepted your posts as on behalf of your group and enjoy the stories and images. How would any of us ever have known if you had not told us? No one complained before about possible other writers.
Please do not get upset and please, please do not stop posting as many of us enjoy the stamps and culture shown in your posts. We also envy your sunshine, beaches and way of life, especially now that winter has arrived with the snow and cold winds. It is really warming to view your beaches and sunshine when it is minus 30-40c and blowing a gale.
Stay safe, all of you.
""borderline deceitful""
I sometimes read but don't post responses.
I'm an introvert and just tend to let others
do the talking/typing.
I came back to Stamporama because I enjoy the
friendliness here and the knowledge.
Also the stamps.
"... Who care about the name of the writers...."
Usually authors do, and quite often they care very much.
I suspect that were you to construct a carefully written
and researched article chock-a-block with facts and long
held opinions you might also care quite a bit.
"... here are way too many writers & it's impossible to
keep track of every writers. ..."
That can easily be solved by adding "Anonymous" or "Author Unknown"
to the end of that kind of article so misunderstandings can be prevented.
" ... Do not let some grumpy person spoil your great writings.... "
First of all, my intention was, as stated, to offer a little nudge
as friends often do to friends so that there are no misunderstandings.
Second, right there in your comment you refer to "your great writings"
which seems to indicate that you missed the point that several people
were, and are, the authors.
Third, at more than one point I offered a simple solution to what is
otherwise described as an "Impossible" situation.
I do feel sorry that, what I thought was an easy to understand and handle
suggestion brought on an unexpected and unnecessary abject apology.
A simple solution is to have each poster add some unique identifier when interacting with members unless all views represent the interest of the French Polynesia Stamp Club entity. Then it becomes more like a press release.
i noticed lately that i get emails and stamporama messages from people that never post on the discussion threads. Its possible that they do not wish to be tracked by their search engines?
