I really love stamp collecting. There are so many beautiful and interesting stamps to collect. They fascinate me with their artistry and their history. Often enough the crudest stamps appeal to me much more than the fancy stamps being made today.

A crude stamp from the Princely State of Alwar in India.

I have been thinking lately, that I have picked such a wide focus for stamp collecting that It is a bit overwhelming. As it stands I have been collecting the entire British Commonwealth and about a dozen European countries besides. And there are always stamps catching my eye that could fit in my collection.

Two of the many stamps that caught my eye.

Getting right down to it, I guess, I find myself wanting to cut down my stamp collecting and having a bit simpler of a life. Also as many know, the thrill of getting that next cool item can be a bit addicting (it has been for me, anyway) and I wish to be more purposeful regarding my collection.

Therefore I am no longer collecting postage stamps except from the US and Panama. I also will be liquidating my collections that I will no longer be pursuing (here on StampoRama most likely).

As for the collecting of postal history, while it is not my first love in the philatelic world it is the strongest. Nothing will be changing in that regard.

Thanks for listening.

re: I feel like talking a bit

I have no problem selling or giving my stamps......I am not so sentimental about them I guess.
I gave up collecting postage stamps about 10 years ago but am still trying to dispose of what remains. Having changed my Cinderella Collecting plans at the back end of 2020, I now have lots of those to get rid of as well.
The main problem is time. But slowly, slowly if I am allowed by life and loves.

I recently posted a hoard of Commonwealth stamps here on Stamporama and they went quite well so I guess there is still plenty of interest in our wonderful hobby !

Let the dream continue........

I know the feeling Antonio, and have been facing the same dilemma.

I have given selected chunks of my collection to various relatives, nephews and their kids (for example my Germany, Switzerland and US collections). I have also separated, with the intention of selling or even gifting other parts (all my East Europe sizeable holdings, and all my UK related...now in boxes waiting.). And I still find myself with too much. Current focus is Middle East, Latin America & Caribbean, and West Europe (less the UK).
There is a special thrill to get the last stamp that completes a collection, and put it on a page, and to worry about the esthetics of the presentation...redoing pages, putting stamps in mounts etc... I am for example one stamp away from finishing French Libya, a few stamps away from completing Cilicia..etc..) and I have completed a number of the "dead countries" collections, but then, when you have finished what do you do? I have been wrestling with this question as more and more areas reach this point.
Curious what YOU fellow collectors do when you reach this milestone,
