I’ve been on eBay since the early days. Always as a buyer but a few stints as a seller. Recently their “250 Free Listings A Month” promotion plus my purchase of a few large lots of post cards and covers got me motivated to sell once again.
I did a bunch of research into a few sellers I buy covers from on a regular basis. I found some of them doing amazing numbers, so I combined the best practices, as well as my experience from my past sales. So I’ve been doing my 250 listings a month, mostly starting at 99 cents. At first I got a few sales, but I see how your sell through improves as you develop a list of regulars. At this point I’m seeing a lot of the same folks every week.
I’m still selling a lot of covers for 99 cents each but more are now getting multiple bids. I have folks who know to wait and amass a decent size order before paying.. I only charge postage once no matter how much you buy, but there are a lot of people who instantly pay 99 cents and a dollar postage. I’ve asked and they’ve said they like to get little treats in the mail every week, so be it!
And one of the fun things is a lot of the one cover, one time sales are from people buying local pieces. I’ve sent a lot of covers and cards back to the town they originated from. These folks get excited so it’s fun to do!
There was a fantastic lot of US officials on E-Bay. I thought "what the Hell" and put in a bid of $500, a lot of money for me but I knew I only had a small chance. Sure enough I wasn't even close, they went for $1250 - a bit out of my price range. I did however get some nice Danzig semi-postals (B15 - 19 and B28 - 32) in two other lots. I paid a bit more than I wanted to, but after all, I just saved $1250!! Hope everyone has had a great weekend and found a few stamps!
