I got the top two scanned aerogrammes in a batch of other stuff. The bottom one was sold to me a few years ago as a UC53.
So the Scott Specialized entry has me baffled. The caption under the design says that UC53 is "brown" and that UC54 is "green and brown."
But then... the actual entries describe UC53 as "blue, red & brown" and UC54 as "yellow, magenta, blue & black!"
What the Fudge??

1. Did the FDCs you posted have the people and planes added by a cachet maker?
2. How do I distinguish the covers without a FDOI cancel?

Yes.

The difference is in the color of the Statue of Liberty. Brown statue on UC53, green on UC54
Take another look at the Scott description. Note the colors quoted refer to the statue.

No, they are all UC54.

OK, I have 54s. It was the "green and brown" that threw me off. (I still can't see any brown in the Statue. Not enough rods or cones or something in my eyes.)
Do you have a UC53 in your Buckacover inventory? I don't know how to do a search there.

The Buckacover portion of our inventory can't be searched, it is like a dollar table at a stamp show -- there are 400 categories that can be browsed, but that's the extent of the organization. Makes for some real finds!
I don't tend to put up modern unused US stationery -- it doesn't sell enough at our target $1/cover to warrant the effort.
However, I did break into a big box of unused US stationery sitting on my shelf and pulled out about 15 modern aerogrammes including a couple of UC53 and a UC54, plus others that I can send in a 100gm letter. I'll send it to you free. You can keep what you want and share the rest with other Stamporama members, since postage will be a lot less for you in the US than from Canada to the USA.

BTW. the "brown" on UC54 is the little bit at the base of the statue.
