re: Van Gogh the immersive experience

Thanks for the advance review.

The exhibition has been heavily promoted of late in the Orlando area, with an interesting twist: An unidentified yet "exciting historic location in the downtown area".

According to media reports, tkt holders would be advised (via email) of the location as the show opening nears.

Turns out the hype was simply a delay tactic, as the show organizers had yet to secure appropriate exhibition space.

Ultimately the "selected" venue is the convention center. Which is neither historic, nor in downtown.

Ah, marketing.

re: Van Gogh the immersive experience

Just googled it and it turns out to be quite a global enterprise. Here in Europe there are currently "experiences" running in Antwerp, Berlin, Leicester, York and London. From what I could see on the website it is impressive as well as immersive. A bit strange though that it can be seen all over the world, but not here in the Netherlands. Perhaps it is because we have the two museums with the largest collections of Van Gogh's paintings?
Also a bit strange that I have never been to either of these two museums. Note to self: need to go the Van Gogh Museum or to the Kröller-Müller museum, at some time.

Siem i think the immersion we saw had been in Paris first. You probably know this but order your tickets for the Van Gogh museum in Amsterdam in advance. phil

re: Van Gogh the immersive experience

My wife and I went to Philadelphia recently, and had a wonderful docent tour at the Barnes Foundation, highlighting their VVG holdings and select other post-impressionists. We chose this over the immersive experience, as we were able to view the actual paintings. As a "collector", I have been ticking off my "in-person" viewings on our travels for several years. We are planning a trip to the UK in a couple of years, and I may actually pencil in an extra day in Paris expressly to view the paintings in the City of Light.... (she mentioned climbing some scaffolding downtown, but we'll see if there's time....)

A recently "rediscovered" watercolour study on paper is being auctioned at Christie's NY next month, expected to bring $20-30 million. It's a beautiful image of stacks of wheat, done in 1888 at Arles. It's being displayed at Christie's in London this week, for the first time publicly in over 100 years.
