The US Postal Service is going more to producing stamps that are sticker-like rather than interesting and historical. That doesn't mean that all stamps produced by the US are childish. The soon to be issued Christmas stamps featuring otters appears to look very nice.
" ... Many American stamp collectors have been disappointed
for past years ..."
I would love to argue about that, but I am afraid I agree and
would add UK issues as well.
I've been watching the quality going down over the last several
years.
Possibly theere is some fear that anything too challenging might
engender an unneeded controversy. It seems to me that whatever
we do lately offends someone or some group.
American stamps have been disappointing due to: poorly designed, low quality & overly produced. Moreover, self-adhesive stamp & increase rate of mail delivery was a huge mistake. These are indisputable facts. Majority of American stamp collectors are already disappointed. Even some Pro US Postal are disappointed too. We wonder is US Postal the reason why stamp hobby is declining ? UK Postal is also a tragedy, they mind as well shutdown.
We are the French Polynesia Stamp Club. We have no interest in UK & American stamps, but we do monitor their situation. We noticed large numbers of complaints are American & British in last couple years, it's alarming. Below, are some beautiful French Polynesia stamps.
"... Moreover, self-adhesive stamp &
increase rate of mail delivery was a
huge mistake. These are indisputable
facts. ..."
I suspect there has been a glitch and
you mean something different.
If by rate of delivery you refer to the
number of pieces mailed and delivered
every day or week, that number has declined
dramatically over the last twenty or so
years.
Were it not for philatelic mail
I would barely receive ten envelopes a
month and nine of them would be discounted
commercial mail.
That would be bills and advertising fliers.
If you are refering to the number of parcels
delivered, Fedex and UPS have eaten a huge
hole in that part of the postal business.
Were it not for a contract to deliver
parcels for Amazon and other commercial
megaliths the USPS would likely go broke.
The appointed head of the postal system
seems to have a singular goal of fully
eliminating the postal system and driving
the profitable package delivery service
over to a corporation that he receives
a financial benefit.
So on all fronts the USPS rate of anything
but debt is falling, not increasing.
The USPS has many flaws but think the US first class rate of 58 cents is a bargain given it is a single rate to anywhere in the US including Alaska and Hawaii.
According to an online conversion calculator, this equates to just 60 CFP francs. I am not sure what rate class the 66f stamp covers. It would cost a US mailer USD$1.30 (134 CFP Francs) to send a letter to French Polynesia. This seems like a bargain too.
Thank you very much for the all the comments. Yes, it's expensive to mail a letter in French Polynesia. It has been expensive since 1958. It also takes a long time to deliver a mail because there are islands spreading out. It takes about 2 months to reach Europe, Americas or Africa. Some mail never reach and got lost forever, one letter ended up in Antarctica somehow.
Long time ago, we French Polynesia Stamp Club had thousands of American & British stamps. They were given as gift. One evening, we took those stamps & toss them into a dumpster. We walked away from the dumpster & never look back. We have no communication with US & UK Postal for decades. Below, are some beautiful French Polynesian stamps.
These Polynesian stamps are very meaningful with deep meaning - it may seems foreign to US & UK Postal. I wonder can American & British related to these stamps?
" ... These Polynesian stamps are very meaningful
with deep meaning ..."
Very colorful, for sure. But if "stamps" are not
available postally used they are little more than
labels to many collectors. That is especially true
for countries where the local user can not acquire
copies to use in regular mail. That situation has
been discussed many times.
Most Polynesian stamps are used for domestic. Few are used for international. The chances of a foreigner getting a mail from French Polynesia is low. The island population is very low & is less likely to interact with outside world. In Polynesia, the French Polynesian stamps are in strong demand with collectors & non collectors. In oversea, they're in demand too. Philatelic Center of French Polynesia received over 50,000 orders daily around the world. However, non collectors aren't familiar with them and have no interest.
Polynesian stamps are widely available. They're desirable due to their beautiful design, excellent quality, high denomination & low quantity. Collecting French Polynesian stamps is expensive. It's not unusual to spend thousands of euros. The stamps itself is expensive compared to other nations. In my opinion, French Polynesian stamps caters middle & high class in a funny way. For example, one of my friend's daughter left her work early because she wanted to buy the newly released 2021 stamps. She spend hundreds of euros purchasing stamps & stamp sheets on that day. She wasn't the only person left work early, the line was very long during weekday.
" ... For example, one of my friend's daughters

One good thing about Polynesian motifs is the happy
images and mostly bright scenes.
Your comment brings up one question. "What does your
friend's daughter do with all her purchases ?" I hope she
is not taking part in an Oceanic "Tulip Mania."
Hopefully there wasn't a related long line at the local stamp hinges shop!
Ron
On the golf course stamp, the Pacific Ocean sure is one big water trap!
Michael- These 1974 golf stamps were dedicated to d' Atimaono Golf Course. Few international golfers visited this secluded Polynesian golf course because it's located in the middle of Pacific Ocean. However, it's visited by many Polynesian stamp collectors who play golf.
.
Ron- Long hinge line? Most Polynesian stamp collectors don't hinge stamps. Instead, stamps are stored in flexible protective frames & displayed in a large custom made photo album. These special albums are available in Monaco & Liechtenstein only.
.
CDJ1122- My friend's daughter isn't a collector or has Tulip Mania. She purchased stamps on behalf of her co- workers because some are stamp collectors. She also purchased for herself. She gives stamps to her friends & neighbors as gift. She also gives to family members for birthday, anniversary & Heiva festival. She donates to schools since stamp is a popular topic in classroom discussions. Like most people, she uses stamps to mail letters. But, she mostly keeps stamps & sheets as souvenir which touches her heart. Her souvenir album is passed around to all extended families for happy sharing.
" ... But, she mostly keeps stamps & sheets as souvenirs

That itself sounds like incipient Tulip Mania.
I am reminded of the people who bought sheets
and sheets of US stamps, most of which are now
comfortably ensconced within the confines of a
dealers discount stamp box.
Said mania is not limited to US issues. I won
a worldwide box of miscellaneous stamps at an
auction, bidding mostly, because of the file red
boxes of glassines or a pittance, but the lot
included a pile of world wide sheets beneath
some half stripped albums. The shipping was more
than the winning bid.I still have several pounds
of them, thinking that perhaps I might make up a
few 100 or to hundred different stamp accumulations
to sell or gift. I think they were someone's personal
Tulip Mania. many of these sheets are quite attractive.
Tulip Mania you mean Stamp Mania.
My name is Ian and I suffer from Stamp Mania.
Yes I have boxes of stamps that I bought ages ago and only had a quick peek through.
Yes I have stockbooks and albums that I haven't looked through for weeks, nay months.
Yes I get withdrawal symptoms if I cannot attend a stamp auction in person.
Yes my wife says "Not another box of stamps" when I return from an auction.
I asked my doctor if I would live longer if I conquered my mania? His reply was "It will only seem longer!"
Therefore I shall continue in my manic state!
I used to live in a home, now it seems I live in a Warehouse.
I didn't know what is Tulip Mania/Stamp Mania. Thanks for letting me. Now, I know my friend's daughter has Tulip Mania/Stamp Mania. She has a total of 1 album. She purchased on certain issues that she can related to & touched her heart deeply. 19 issues were released in 2021, but she only interested in 1 & not other 18.
Years ago, there was an issue that she was interested, but it was sold out quickly. She didn't ask questions & just walked away quietly. She was fine about that and didn't talk about it. Her behavior seems normal, but now that you mention about Tulip Mania/Stamp Mania. I wonder does she has psychological disorder ?
Living in warehouse? How did Tulip Mania/Stamp Mania got you living in a warehouse ?
Got withdrawal symptoms if cannot attend a stamp auction in person?
French Polynesia Stamp Club
The reason I feel as if I am living in a Warehouse is that I have been buying large Collections for years and now have Cardboard boxes full of them. Each box can hold up to 25 Collections. I have managed to sell quite a lot since. At one time it was so bad I had to go sideways into the Bedroom so I could get to my bed. I see a collection with 30-40 albums and I find it very hard to resist. Just this week two boxes with 36 albums arrived from Germany. The week before I was a very good boy and bought only one Collection of Wuerttemberg in used condition. The only room in the house without stamps is the Bathroom.
There are boxes I have not looked into in a long time simply because I cannot get to them. Maybe I should join Stampaholic anonymous.
" ... I wonder does she has psychological disorder ? ..."
Collecting anything as stampers do is a (usually) benign
psychosis. There is an emotional desire to have and hold
something that may or may not have economic value, or even
beauty except in the eye of someone who collects similar
objects.
I have a topical Album where I like to accumulate
stamps that recreate what most consider great art works.
Things of beauty, right ? Even some Picasso images that
look just as good downside-up.
I also have several pages where there are many copies of
the fraudulent photocopies of a Nigerian stone river crossing
from the infamous "Nigerian Prince" scam that was prevalent
for so many years. {Note}
Genuine copy
They are an example of some of the ugliest and most amateur
attempts at defrauding the local government I've seen.
Both mini collections are examples of a collecting psychosis,
neither re valuable unless taken to an extreme.
I think collecting of objects is so common among humans that
it should be considered normal, or so near normal, that
"disorder" is a commonly used misnomer.
{Note bene}
The Nigerian scam, and variants are still netting the
swindlers hundreds of thousands of dollars each year
from unwitting trusting individuals.
cdj1122, I'm glad my friend's daughter doesn't have addiction. The fraud stamps in Nigeria is hard. There is so much scams in Nigeria that it's out of control especially phone scam. We have not seen any fraud in Polynesian stamps since 1894, it was the only time the French postal took over. The criminals were arrested the following year.
.
Charlie2009, you buy a lot. You might have an addiction. It's possible to hoard the house with so many box'. You can avoid buying box' by putting away computer & phone. This way, you will be free and no more living in warehouse. I wonder how many people have addiction in StampoRama? Stampaholic support group may be needed.
.
Below is some 1960's stamps which we rarely displayed. Very few issues were released, none in 1961.
I forgot to reply Brechinite (Ian), Sorry about that, Sir.
.
I'm glad your doctor believed you will live longer. But, I think you will live longer whether you conquer the withdrawal symptoms or not because you seems to enjoy purchasing a lot of box' like Charlie2009. Both you guys are addicted to the hobby, but that's ok. I just wondering you guys must spend a lot of money?......Hopefully, you guys set up a budget for each month.
Before ending this thread, below are the French Polynesian latest 2021 stamps. The Philatelic Center of French Polynesia has been wonderful releasing some of the most beautiful stamps in the world. Only 40,000 were produced for these 3 issues (below).

French Polynesia released some beautiful stamps in 2021 while United States is struggling. Many American stamp collectors have been disappointed for past years. Some already complained to the US postal while others have abandoned. Perhaps US postal is lack of source or finance to design beautiful stamps? Perhaps lack of talent or technology to produce quality stamps? We don't know what's going on, but we do know that the United States postal is not serious about stamps.
.
Below, are some 2021 French Polynesia stamps which the United States postal is unable to developed, sadly.
