I hadn't given this pair much thought until recently. I was culling my Washington and Franklin surplus and came upon this pair again.
It is a pair from a booklet pane #462a and would've been imperforate between. The cancellation is May 31, 1917. It is painfully obvious that someone had tried to give it fake perforations between. The holes are almost too perfectly round and not in a relatively straight line. I'd speculate it was a trial run at someone trying to perfect their craft and unwittingly destroyed a valuable pair.
I had always heard stories of fakers doing this. Now I have the proof. I'll keep this for my reference collection. There is still educational value to it that is why I decided to share it with you all in this thread.
