Howdy!

I think there is at least one unknown friend in this group who is also collecting flowers, fruit, and trees on stamps, because often when I pounce on a newly posted book of approvals, all the plants are gone already! Sometimes *only* the plants! Especially those higher values in some of the sets, or that *one* stamp that would fill the hole in my album.

Sometimes I think I get there first because all the plants are still there, and maybe you come along later, wondering who *I* am and why I snatched that one you were hoping for.

I'm a botanist, retired from running undergraduate labs in botany and biology. I've been collecting off and on since about 1994 and I collect any and all botanical topics. I like stamps best when they look like botanical illustrations (as opposed to photos). Bonus points if the Latin name is included--my collection spreadsheet has the Latin names and the plant families. Some of those identifications have been the dickens to track down! (Obscure journal articles about the flora of small Pacific islands, anyone?)

I'd be pleased to "meet" you and compare notes, so speak up and tell me what you collect. We could probably have fun talking about our favorite stamps and sets--and possibly set up some very good trades.

re: Who is my fellow collector of plants?

Hello Texas Monique!

I have been routinely listing stamps featuring Flora on the SOR Auction, but not enough to devote an Approval Book to this category (100 Stamps). I have just listed Singapore #764 - #765, Care for Nature - Native Trees. Perhaps you have some interest. I'm not opposed to receiving Offers. Thank you very much.

Regards,

Bob Armstrong

When I lived in the tropics I used to collect orchids. Once I found one that had tiny yellow flowers about 2-3 mm across. You could still make out the three sepals and three petals.

I am cutting back on my stamp collecting (though not my cover collecting) so I have not been competing with you for lovely plant/flower stamps.
