"May she rest in peace and rise in glory"
Brenda (Gilmore) was one of my customers the past couple of years. Her extended family of friends have been keeping me informed. I found her collecting interests unusual, to say the least. She delighted in the unusual - from obscure labels, to photos of locomotives, to old Russian (Crimea) Post Cards. I have fond memories of her. amsd said it all, better than me.
it seems like I've known Brenda my entire SOR life. It's possible I have. Our membership dates are close to one another and mine is years afer I actually joined SOR, so, maybe hers is, too. Not sure, and it really doesn't matter.
I got word that Brenda died on Wednesday (9.28); she had recently been transferred to palliative care after her condition deteriorated in a battle she had been losing for most of this year. For the last two months, my contact with her had been through intermediaries; her strength just not up to much else.
Her life was generally difficult, often trying to battle her landlords or her library to get hours or to get repairs. And she battled physical ailments for most of the time i've known her. She complained plenty about landlords who didn't follow through and librarian bureaucrats who did bureaucratic things. She never complained about her physical state, although she kept us updated, matter-of-factly. Her last year was spent in retreat from advancing and expanding ailments.
I'd never spoken to nor met Brenda in person; all our communication had been via email or the post. We chatted about life. She was a librarian by trade, and a fitting occupation for a woman who loved digging into the history of whatever it was that was on her desk at the moment. Sometimes she'd send me PCs she knew would tickle me, or photocopies of PCs or photos or letters that were tickling her.
Her philatelic interests read as she if had cheated and simply copied mine, and added a few things so no one would know. Truth is, she was actually more Puckish in her tastes than me, and things she'd send were just so damn fascinating.
And Brenda loved Jesus; she was ready to join Him in a place without pain. She'd welcome your prayers now, and, if she doesn't need them, I'm sure she'll send them, or photocopies of them, to some other soul.
