"Anyone have any idea on these cards"
Think that poster was wanting to know origin, producer, issue year etc.
On the first card is that a trade name under the ball or just scuffed grass?
Maybe a Sweetule Trade Card of Field Hockey from 1957.
Example :
Frank Swift Junior Service Sweetule Famous Sports Records No. 8
Sweetule tradecard from 1956 Field Hockey
Just found these and did not have any idea about them. Thought maybe someone would know
Hey Kees (eagc1397)
Your post inadvertently pointed out an interesting difference between North American and International nomenclature. Much like us saying "soccer", while our friends in Netherlands would say "football".
Your initial post showed cards reading "hockey". I thought, That's not hockey, that's "field hockey"!
Then Henry (HockeyNut) asked if you collected hockey cards - showing a picture of what we would actually call "hockey" but what my Dutch friends refer to as "ice hockey" (as I laugh and say, "well that's redundant - hockey is played on ice").
I love stuff like that - showing we are all the same, yet all different in what we love and how we talk about it, or the words we use (or in context, what we collect).
And for added enjoyment, I saw you are from Nova Scotia - near the Annapolis Valley. Propitious timing! I just got back from my father's memorial in Kingston Ontario yesterday. He was a 95-year old WWII veteran, receiving medals (and much love) from Netherlands for his service in liberating that country (which he visited 3 times since).
My sister came up from Nictaux Falls (near Middleton) for this - and brought a picture of my rock band playing at the Apple Blossom Festival in Kentville when I was in Grade 7 and my dad was stationed at CFB Greenwood.
My comments might seem off-topic. But my point is this...
What a great community we have here in Stamporama. We bring lots of differences to a place where we can share and embrace those differences - with the love of collecting stamps (and other such things!) - and where we find surprising connections that can bring us together.
Peace and Love to all, Dave.
Kees, is that a trade name under the ball on the first card? It sort of looks like "Fesports" but I can't get a clear enough image. Also what size are the cards, they look about 3X2 inches.
I have looked in my book of trade and cigarette cards but not finding anything that fits, maybe they were from a breakfast cereal producer. Unusual not to have a name somewhere.
It s always interesting to have off subject comments Nictaux is just up the road. What year were you playing in the festival. I can not read any markings on the cards so there hard to identify
Thanks for the help
