I got married in 1995.
My wife wakes up every morning and looks at me in bed saying "I can't remember exactly why I married you. I do remember at one time you were an attractive addition to my life. But I'm not sure if I should try to extend our marriage. I just wonder why I did it".
I just reply "Ain't life weird" and go back to sleep.

Well here is a guess about the Channel Islands.
They began issuing their own stamps about 1970 and the designs were interesting. Possibly by the mid-eighties it became obvious that they were printing far more stamps that were needed .
I have done something similar except I chose to collect nice postally used when possible and am still at it. The Channel Islands album is fat with pages and I may have to separate Jersey from Guernsey soon. I just wish I had them all postally used, but sometimes a compromise had to be made. At least I did not get them all from their postal facilities at full price.
As for starting and stopping the UK stamps, I have no idea. I have four albums filled with just Machin stamps plus two with the general run of UK commemoratives. Now the Uk has gone a bit crazy with long issues these days.
I've been thinking about possible reasons for this mini collection. We probably started because my wife's mother was a war bride from the Lancashire area, Clar and Elsie actually met playing field hockey on opposing sides and the Newfoundlander ended up bashing his wife to be on the head with his field hockey stick. My wife always had an interest in all things British. She also had a granny over there who used to send her things - I still have an almost complete collection of a British rock magazine from the 50's to 70's called Rave. The collection actually has significant value. She also much preferred the Stones over the Beatles. So I think that's why the collection started. Why did it end? I think the number of stamps being issued started to go a bit crazy and it got too expensive to get them all. Where did we get them? I really have no idea!!! The dealer I have been using since the early 1970's claims that neither he or his father supplied them! Again, ain't life weird! ( "i" before "e" except after "c", unless it's "weird" )

But don't bet heavily on it.

I can't remember exactly why we did it but my wife and I started getting Great Britain and Channel Islands material mint as it was issued during this time period. I've been sorting through my "odd things" putting them in large stock books and came up with this material. It's a complete collection, or close to it, of mint stamps, booklet panes and other odds and ends (including many definatives) from this time period. I can't remember why we did this and why we stopped in the mid 1980's. I'm also not sure whether I should try to extend the collection or just keep it as it is - something else to think about. It makes a very attractive mini collection that almost fills one stock book. I just wonder why we did it!! Ain't life weird!!
