I had thought about going but just getting over a bout of recovery from surgery put me off, my wife said NO- things are just too unsettled now. I'm sure it will be OK but why take a risk when I don't need to. On my own I'd go, just didn't want to argue past that.
Hope to see your posts on here after the show.
"Hope to see your posts on here after the show."
I will be looking forward to your report about the show!
Well,
I decided to scan everything I purchased at the Great American Stamp Show, so here goes!
First, a few pictures of the venue;
Here's the guidebook they hand you at the entrance;
First things I found were 3 Springer's Catalogs;
Here are some Federal, state and local revenues, along with some miscellaneous cinderellas;
These were interesting;
And here are some I've never seen before - follow this link to learn more about them!
https://www.linns.com/news/us-stamps-postal-history/2015/march/the-un-on-us-stamps-and-labels-horseshoe.html
More to come tomorrow!!
Very nice, especially the Federal Boating Stamp! Looking forward to the additional pictures and glad you were able to attend.
I wasn't there, but I received this nice item a few days ago, from my mentor, Bill Schultz:
It's such a nice souvenir, I will offer it back to Bill for his collection, the next time I see him.
BTW, Bill was awarded the Kehr Award, for outstanding service to the hobby.

Hey Randy, nice items there. Love those BOB and more esoteric items. Looks like you had a good time.
A family friend stopped by this afternoon and it turns out he was at the coin show in Rosemont ! If i knew it would have been nice to hitch a ride,,but too many things going on at the moment it would have been at LEAST 4 days with travel.
Okay, where was I.....oh, yes!
A couple things first before I show more pics;
Regarding the 1914-1915 Mexico revenues shown above - the ones that also say USA above the central image - those are from the US occupation of Veracruz....here's a link to the story;
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_occupation_of_Veracruz
I had never seen those in person, so of course, being a revenue collector, I had to buy a few!
Regarding the Japanese Pavillion cinderellas from the world's fair;
does anyone know for sure what year world's fair those were from??
Okay, on with the rest of what I found!
I picked these up for a friend in our local club who collects Scandinavian countries - First Day ceremony for them! The engraver was supposed to be there signing them all, but he couldn't get out of his country!!
Picked up this postcard for the cancel - I like railroad cancels.
Here are a couple links to Clarinda, Iowa and Bigelow, Kansas;
https://www.frrandp.com/2021/06/the-forgotten-railways-of-clarinda-iowa.html
https://legendsofkansas.com/bigelow-kansas/
I do Michigan town cancels, and I couldn't make out what town this cancel says - maybe someone can help?
I have an IPSA collection so of course I had to get these;
Next up, a fun selection of cacheted baseball covers, older and recent;
(Tigers & Indians fan!)
Now, THIS one is pretty cool - stamp designer Chris Calle's son designed this cachet! And its one of only 25 made! AND, he signed it!
Now, for me - this is the ultimate baseball FDC;
the very FIRST cachet for the 1939 US baseball stamp! A little pricey, but I had to have it.....finally!
(The lower one was a bonus one I found as well)
I also found a nicely cancelled event cover of my all-time favorite stamp - the bi-colored beacon airmail stamp of 1928 - I like the ones with the bi-plane cancel on the stamp;
And here are a couple cancelled on thwe first day of the new 5c rate;
Now THESE were extra-special - an FDC of the beacon stamp, which had to have 2 stamps due to the fact that the rate change wasn't until Aug. 1st!This is the first one I had seen with 4, so I had to have it. And a cachet honoring
Admiral Byrd's homecoming;
And last but by no means least - just some fun cacheted covers of the Rudolph characters from one of my favorites from my youth....TV's Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer by Rankin & Bass;
Well, that's all, folks!!
C-11 is my favorite all time, too. I wish that I could find one of the beacons here in Florida.
Hey, joesm,
If you haven't seen this earlier posting on SOR:
Air Mail Beacons
...you might find it interesting.
Randy, it seems a given that somewhere out there is a great exhibit tying the history of the beacons to C11. Gotta link? Might be more fitting as a bump of the thread I'm linking to in this message.
-Paul
PS, joesm, I'm looking at a map of Air Mail Routes in the US, 1934, and the ones in Florida are laid out as straight lines:
Jacksonville to Daytona Beach
Daytona Beach to Miami
Daytona Beach to Orlando (secondary)
Orlando to Tampa/St. Peterburg (secondary)
Excellent, Paul!
Thanks for the link back to that discussion and the links to the stories of the concrete arrows that guided the pilots back then.
I don't know that there is an article that goes in depth regarding the beacon arrows and the C11, but I have been planning to write one for a while now...maybe I should get serious about that!
And in case anyone didn't see it, here's a link to the article about my favorite stamp!

i have one Florida Miami Dec 1 1928. The scan is darker than the cover..i scanned it at 150 resolutions to fit to size for Stamporama.
Nice, Phil!

Anyone going to the Great American Stamp Show in Chicago (Rosemont) in August?
The dates are August 12th - 15th.
Our local club's president and vice-president (that's me!) will be there on Thurs. the 12th thru Friday the 13th.
Looks to be a fine turnout with over 100 dealers, 800+ exhibits, 3 first day ceremonies and much more.
If anyone from SOR will be there on those dates, I would certainly like to meet to say an in-person hello and put a face to the name(s) here!
Here is a link to the info for the show;
