My guess is that the stamp may have been trimmed from the envelope with a pair of pinking shears rather than with ordinary scissors, and inadvertently the stamp may have been cut into in the process.
I have only ever seen the odd cut around a stamp still on paper with pinking shears, but that is of what this reminds me.

Definitely pinking shears used to trim around the stamp; but the collector hit the stamp.

Thanks
Recently I received a collection of stamps from a friend. Most of the stamp were soaked off and stored in old chocolate boxes. While sorting out a bunch of Canadian stamps I came across a 1977 10c Christmas stamp (Scott 741) that had an odd set of perforations. Can anyone shed and light on this odd stamp? I have an old Unitrade catalogue that mentions imperforate stamps but says nothing about what I found.
