This is the only "Peace" issue of Australia that I know of...
There was a set of similar design issued in 1995 (Scott #1456-1458) commemorating the 50th anniversary of the end of Word War II.
No, there were no Peace stamp overprints.
Also, Papua New Guinea issued no stamps between 1938 and 1951, so there is no peace stamp issued by them at all.
Thankyou for all the information. I believe the last issue was the overprint on the 1935 jubilee issue. But I wasn`t sure if there had been an overprint by Australia in 1946.It seems they used Australia`s stamps at that time
Cheryl.
Cheryl, the last stamps issued by Papua before the war were as follows;-
Sg.163-167 2d-1/- Airmails issued 6th Sept.1939 and Sg.168 1/6d Airmail issued 2nd Jan 1941. See below.
During the war years stamps of Australia were used by Australian troops, the American used their own stamps, see below.
Following the defeat of the Japanese in 1945 Australian stamps were used and were valid up to 1st March 1953, and yes the 1946 Peace stamps were used in Papua New Guinea, however they were never overprinted. See below.
Hope it helps,
Sid
I am seeking information on a 1946 peace stamp for Paupa New Guinea. After WWII the stamps of Australia were used by Paupa/new Guinea until the 1950s
Was there a peace issue from Australia with an overprint ?
Thanks for any help.
Cheryl
