First of all
There are 3 different types of the Pfennig values
You are showing Mi nr 8 and they exists only in type I and III
Second
The 20 Pfg value is in plate (P) and roller (W) printing but you can not detect that on those stamps.
Third
There are numerous Plate errors and printing coincidences from this serie.
The left one is Mi nr 8 I
The right one is Mi nr 8 I
The middle one is of Type III because you can see the controlstroke under the black rectangle.
I will scan some pictures later one to make it clearer......
BE AWARE THAT ALL PRICES OVER 5 EUROS ARE ONLY VALID FOR PIECES TESTED BY BPP.
Thanks Henry. The info provided really shows the disadvantage we North Americans face using Scotts minimal info vs the Michel catalogues.
Is there a decent on-line resource that would help folks like me pin down some of the variations (particularly with Germany/Related)? I've come across a lot of colour and other variations but typically don't bother putting them in my album (perhaps a mistake?)
Cheers, Dave.
The different types :
Overprint differences only for type I:
Overprint differences only for type I continued:
Overprint differences only for type II and type III:
P.S.
BE AWARE THAT THE PRICES IN THESE TABLES ARE IN DEUTSCH MARKS AND ARE FROM 1993 !!!!!!!!
Here a picture I have found on another forum displaying TYPE I, II and III
And here a copy of a copy with all the differences per type :
Examples off Plate pressure :
So you have to see the upper- or lower edge of the stamp
Examples off Roller pressure :
Wow, Hockeynut!! Those posts were extremely informative!! Thank you very much!!
Yes, thanks again, terrific info. I can see how you could easily fall into a rabbit hole of various areas of specialization in Germany. The 1948-51 Buildings issue is apparently one that could drive you batty!
I may have to start putting aside more of the "oddities" I find instead of just thinking "if it doesn't go in my album I have to get rid of it for 5c".
Cheers, Dave.
I think you are reffering to these is it not?
Yes, those are the ones.
Well just finished the story. Look at :

No idea what to look for her, other than what I can see.
Most stamps of this genre have clear overprints as on the left, with a very few a bit heavier as on the right.
But of 100 or so that I have (from various denominations, etc) the one in the middle is the only one I have seen with this feature.
It isn't a major offset type of double overprint where the letters would be clearly discernible - more like a minor shift downwards that has really muddied up the letters.
Thoughts?
Thanks, Dave.
