Coincidentally there will be a stamp show in the Northwest section of the United States in Kent, Washington (Seattle area) on July 17 and 18th as well for the first show in the northwest area since the Covid lockdowns that occurred last year.
And here in the middle is the Minnesota Stamp Expo, July 16-18, at the Crystal Community Center, Crystal MN!
Half a dozen members from our stamp club will be in Albany for the show..great to have a stamp show to attend !
I attended the Northwest show in Seattle on July 17th and 18th and would wanted to share a bit about my experience there. There were 25 or so dealers present at the show and a steady stream of interested collectors. Roughly half of the dealers and collectors present at the show wore masks and essentially everyone at the show indicated they had been vaccinated except for a few small children who were present at one booth (they are the grandchildren of one of the dealers and frequently attend the shows at which he is present along with his daughter who works with him in the business). Everyone seemed very excited about the resumption of shows and several dealers as well as collectors had driven from other states to participate in the show.
I made some major inroads into filling in stamps for the Great Britain offices for both my Great Britain collection as well as for the related entries that are present in the International album based mint collection for 1840-1963 on which I have been working actively since 2017. In addition I added several new cut squares for the United States pages in the International album so was very productive in finding a number of items for my collection.
Normally there are exhibits as part of this show but the stamp club based organizers elected to forego exhibits for the show and used the space normally reserved for exhibits to give the dealers more room and to spread out the tables which worked very well to prevent crowding at tables.
There will be another small show in Sequim, Washington during August followed by the SeaPex WSP show in September which is typically the largest show in the Seattle area annually if all continues to go well in the state.
On another note I had a blast listening in on the WESTPEX show stamp related auctions on Thursday and Friday of this week which are continuing today and Sunday. Further information can be found at the https://www.westpex.org/ web site. I even managed to win one of the smaller lots by value offered in Friday's auction but saw an opening bid for one auction item that I had submitted a pre-sale bid eclipse my offer by a factor of three and continue rising! Ouch. It really was a lot of fun following the bids online.
