Sorry to hear that Tim.
That's happening at an alarming rate lately.
Usually the "hacker" hasn't hacked your account, but replicates your account and sends friend requests to all your contacts. When you get a duplicate, just look at the requesting account and you'll see it was created yesterday, has no content and maybe a friend or two who already has fallen for it.
On the other hand, a friend of mine had his account stolen. Someone figured out his password, chose a new password and attached it to a different email address. He has not been able to contact Facebook since he has no access to his account.
And I keep getting friend requests from hot young girls with odd foreign names! Um no!
And what do you know.. I log off and I find this friend request.. supposed to be from NYC.. account created two days ago and has no friends! Beware!
I had my identity stolen last year. Three days later a Russian dude offered me $250 to take it back. Now I know how Charlie Brown feels...
Hope you have better luck Tim. As Tom says, it is happening at an alarming rate. The latest scam up here in Canada is to send a text to your phone saying 1) someone has hacked your Amazon account; or 2) your order is in Customs and requires your acknowledgement to release it for delivery. And of course, in both cases, "click on this secure link..."
I have received about 5 of these in the past few weeks - but I have never ordered anything online, nor do I have an Amazon account - so I knew it was a scam. But it is catching so many people because of all the online ordering during Covid lockdowns.
Not sure if an email I got last week was a scam or not. It was from DHL (purportedly) and addressed to Dear (email address) saying they could not deliver as they had an incorrect address.
It got marked as spam and deleted, the attached file unopened.
Guess if it was genuine they will contact me again with proper details or send whatever it was back as undelivered.
DHL and the various courier firms do not deliver to our rural addresses anyway and they are unable to deliver to the Canada post offices.
I deleted my Facebook account years ago. But is it really deleted? Probably not...
Hi Everyone,
Just to let you all know, my Facebook account has been hacked. If you get any strange messages from me, please ignore them.
Regards ... Tim.
