Yes, sir. Intermediate collection. Focus: 1970 and prior.
Am open to trades and/or purchases.
I had no intention to ever visit Thailand, but my son married a Thai girl. I fell in love with the place, NOT Bangkok, and would love to go back.
Lets say I'm in the accumulation stage, but I do have a stockbook set aside
Working on mint stamps for the Scott International albums from 1840-1963. Currently have 62 of 282 spaces in the albums so there are a LOT of missing spaces to fill.
That's a very heartening response. I'm bidding on an early collection but they will join my hoard until I get them sorted if I win. I have built up a rather large accumulation over the years but I've only just started to put them in albums. I have started from 1940 to 1983, my cut off date, as during this period I am dealing with the stamps of Thailand instead of Siam apart from 1947 and 1948 when there was a small hiccup with a return to Siam. (That's an interesting story in itself.) Many thanks to Clive with AlbumEasy which allows me the freedom to include pairs and blocks and even postmarks. When this is completed, (126 pages), I will take the lessons learned to start on Siam albums, a far more interesting period and a legacy for when I'm no longer around. It will mean I can start to offer my duplicates on SoR. I'm hoping that the international outgoing postal service will become more reliable as international travel and flights start to pick up.
My home has been in Bangkok for more than 40 years, so the majority of my life has been here, although I am still an Englishman abroad
" .... although I am still an Englishman abroad ...."
An Expat, but not an immigrant !
To the topic; Yes I lik Thai stamos and collect them
but not with any great intensity. I did make one
short visit there delivering some cargo for the
Sattahip Airbase.
Ah, Charlie
An Expat, but not an immigrant !
My yearly visa says I'm an immigrant so I have to accept that. There is no easy way to be anything other than an immigrant although improved residency rights can be bought at rather a high price. To become a citizen would be extremely difficult but it is just about possible. I am of an age and been here so long where authorities figure I'm just about grandfathered into the nation. I have helped raise a family here but our grandchildren are now spread between Wales and Japan. They and my children are citizens of their respective countries. Me I have reached the point in the last year where I no longer have much faith I will travel overseas again. I ran away to sea in 1973 so I doubt I have much in common with the home I left behind.
Interesting…
I recently had some nice Thailand MNH and Used in Auction that did not sell even at 5% CV after being relisted and discounted twice. Maybe because they had CVs of $4-8? Is Thailand considered overpriced?
David I would say it is a little overpriced in a similar way to other countries in the region. The main collectors of the more expensive issues has changed. Before there were some very big European and American collectors but most have now passed away. At the same time the number of wealthy people in Thailand has increased many times over what it was, even from when I first arrived. A lot of the old collections when broken up have been repatriated to Thailand. I think we see similar in China. Post-WW2 issues are plentiful except for some of the early miniature sheets. Pre-war Siam are not so there are more people chasing fewer stamps.
We visited Thailand several years ago on Holiday Well Koh Samui a Thai Island We had this driver called "Mr Samui"t He and his wife took us everywhere Including the post office were Mr Samui's wife told the post master That I wanted to buy some stamps ,WELL out came all these folders I spent up big ,I had to borrow some money from my brother to pay for all the stamps I purchased.
A few years later we went back only this time we went to Phuket didn't do much stamp shopping there but did visit their postal museum very interesting.

Just trying to see what interest there is this country.
