The Scott US Specialized catalogue has en entire section devoted to Test Stamps (see the index). They are given "TD" numbers and go up to TD140 (2006 seems like the last one). Plus entire booklets and panes of Test Stamps.

US has test stamps, TD code, in US specialized catalogs.
I don't see anything listed for Canada in Unitrade Canada specialized.
Here are a couple of my US test stamps.
Here is the cover of a US test stamp booklet. The stamps inside are just cut and perforated white paper.
Another example from the USA, Sc#TDB32 from 1985 showing 'Flag over Capitol'.
Below that are earlier examples from Coil sheet paper. The Mis-perf is 'normal'.
Nothing from Canada so it was nice to see the example shown by 2010ccg !!
it would be nice if this thread could be moved to the Cinderella section.

With all the odd stuff that Unitrade Specialized for Canada does mention it's a bit strange that they omit the test stamps!
A postal employee could requisition a 3,000 stamp coil of test stamps to use when servicing a lobby vending machine or a self-service vending unit. Seems like they had a border and the words "for testing purposes" or "test stamp". I never dreamed that they would become an item of philatelic interest. The same is true of the "officially sealed" labels or stickers. We would use them if a mailer failed to seal their envelope or it was torn open in processing.
I have a question .
In my collection of oddities I have a UK test stamp and another called a "poached egg" stamp. My question is Did Canada or USA ever have stamps they called "TEST STAMPS
