That's terrific, Vince!
I had had in the back of my mind a possible relocation to that area someday, in order to have the reference library nearby, and to volunteer.
I went so far as to start looking online at houses in the area a couple of years ago, but, after a lot of reflection and some serious discussion with my better half, I do not think either of us would adapt well to the winters. We simply aren't used to it. Too many years spent in California! (If we were 20 years younger, I might say let's give it go. But we're getting to the point where what's familiar and easier is often our choice. I think it comes from too many really challenging work years for both of us.)
Keep up the good work!
We moved from Philadelphia and are used to the winters. I bought a new snow blower on sale in 2019 knowing we would be moving soon. It was a good investment. We have been visiting Bellefonte for the past 25 years and fell in love with the area. There is always something going on here, well not last year but we are open now. This weekend was the annual Friday Night Cruise and today was the car and motorcycle show. Tomorrow will be the Soap Box Derby which the finish line is just out side my front door. As a mater of fact most of the events happen on my street or just up a few blocks. We have a large wrap around porch that is great for people watching. There is a lot of community spirit in this and surrounding towns. I am so glad we made the move. If you are ever in the area I will be glad to show you around.
That sounds like a pretty idyllic place! Can't beat that.
If I/we find myself possibly heading that way, I will definitely let you know. That's a very kind offer.
Please share pictures from the soap box derby if possible!
Most collectors would feel fortunate to visit the APRL even once. To have the opportunity to spend regularly scheduled time over an extended period is an extraordinary learning opportunity. So glad to hear that you're enjoying the new home and the community. I need to get up there for a visit one of these days...in the month of June!
Its been close to 2 years since we have been to a stamp show...i think we will take a trip to Bellefonte in the fall...its only 300 miles from our door..We usually take a motel room for two nights and the time just flies. The people are just so friendly, especially the volunteers.
The Soap Box Derby was cancelled, so no pictures this year. What a disappointment. My wife's siblings are here for a few days so we got to go to the https://www.statecollege.com/event/4th-annual-craft-beverage-expo/2021-06-20/
I don't drink but my family enjoyed themselves. I'm back home getting ready to fire up the grill, I have six hungry people to feed today.
Here is a picture of a little girl in her poodle skirt from Friday night, she is off to the sock hop in the center of town.
Phil, let me know when you plan to visit, we have room here so you can save your motel money for stamps. Ernie, my home is always open when you get the chance to visit, we'll get Tom to come out Too. He's about two to three hours away.

I hear ya Vince! You know I drove that far for my covid shots, unfortunately that took up the whole day so there were no side trips.
The Bellefonte area is beautiful and all historic homes. Vince has one heck of a home there! Looks like a great place to settle down but my wife's goal is to get closer to the grand kiddies, not three hours further away. Oh well!

I am finally able to spend time volunteering at The American Philatelic Research Library (APS) after a year of it being closed to visitors. When we moved to Bellefonte, PA I had plans to volunteer a few hours a week but The APS along with everything else was closed down. I started last week and I am helping in the archives room. There are about 30, 7 foot tall shelves about 30 feet long packed with material that was donated over the years. These have already been inventoried but my job for now is to check the original inventory and condition of of the donations. There is everything from match books with the APS logo, collections of individuals accumulated philatelic stamp show awards to authors research papers for books that have been written. I never realized how much stuff has been donated over the years. I plan on continuing one or two days a week.
