Have you tried Spanish Morocco?
Edit: i now see that Tanger directly follows Spanish Morocco in Scott. If these were listed there, you would have seen it.
There's a note on theses in the Tangier listing in my SG Portugal & Spain catalogue:
In 1940 a number of stamps were overprinted "Correo Aéreo TANGER" and surcharged with new values.
These were produced by officials at the Republican Consulate, who stayed on there after the war ended, but the stamps were not issued.
I see that these are surcharges on a 1938 stamp from the Spanish Republic which fits.
Spanish Tangier in Morocco Provisionally overprinted stamps of Spain for us between 1938 and 1939. These stamps were used until the definitive Tangier issue of 1949-1950. Scott catalog prefaces Spanish Tangier listings as follows:
Stamps are also listed in the Sanabria Worldwide Airmail Catalog:
Thanks all! So the stamps were prepared but apparently not issued, at least as far as Scott is concerned and no Scott numbers exist for the stamps. The specialized catalog from Sanabria lists the prepared stamps and documents them.
I have the following stamps apparently issued by Spain for use in Tangier for air mail but have not been able to locate them in the Scott catalog. Assistance please?
re: Spain - Tangier - Air Mail - Scott #'s?
