I'm sure the fellow was blessing the water wheel, not wasting good single malt! Thanks for sharing that one Ian.

re: Local News

Talking of malts my old boss in the seventies converted me, a rather young immature man, from drinking vodka to having a Glenmorangie. This was before the distillery started producing so many different editions of its whisky. Although flying pretty regularly I couldn't always find it so sometimes I would buy a Glenlivet or the choice was particularly miserly a Glenfiddich 8 year old. I hadn't been a regular malt drinker in later years, no longer having that high paying job, until a friend who was still traveling regularly and had built a stock which will last him the rest of his life started giving me a bottle every few months. (I had converted him to Glenmorangie years ago when we worked together in India.)

One day he said try this one which he started buying when there was no Glenmorangie in the duty free. It was called Balvenie. I won't put "The" in front of Balvenie as it seems a marketing affectation. Anyway this is probably the smoothest malt I have ever sipped. At times I think it's better than Glenmorangie. Not being a connoisseur I do wonder if it can be too smooth and do we need that little bite in the back of the throat that Glenmorangie gives. I think I will spend the rest of my life trying to come up with an answer to this question.

re: Local News

It bothered me that they put in a water wheel but had no plans to use the power generated.
