Hi earwaves,
This is the old gold 8p with elliptical perfs from 2000.
A good online Machin resource is
https://adminware.ca/machin.htm
I agree angore. That is my favourite resource for Machins.
I spotted the notch in the perfs and TRIED to delete my embarrassing post. Thanks for the further Machin info.
Question: what kind of lighting or setup I need to see the secret codes?
To see the codes just angle the stamp to the light source, sometimes you need a magnifying glass to distinguish some of the numbers/letters but most are quite plainly visible.
Check the Adminware site for examples and the Norvic site for a download of all issued codes for each Machin.
I find it helpful with difficult stamps to make a slightly
convex curve to the stamp.
Slightly ! ! !
That can be accomplished by passing the stamp over one
of the legs of the tongs. Once properly hinged and mounted
the stamp will flatten out when the album is closed.
My Scott catalog only lists "red" for the 8p Machin. Is my yellowish one listed elsewhere or might I have a nastily color-shifted item? The color on the scan below is very close to the real thing, though slightly duller.
