Royal Mail's latest clever idea to counter the rampant reuse
and forgery problem in the UK, is to run a test on the Royal
Blue 2ND class NDI stamps, giving each and every single stamp
a discrete serial number, shown though a bar-code box attached
to the stamp itself.
Oh frabjous day, calloo Callay, ! ! !.
Once the stamp is used and some optical reader has noted the
number, the stamp will not be capable of reuse, and forgeries
from existing stamps will be ejected in some way. I assume the
postal sleuths will note the sender's name and address, thus
allowing them to stop by for tea and crumpets one afternoon.
HUZZAR !
If it works I expect it will become standard practice throughout
the kingdom, at least until the forgers crack the coding used.
as
I have ordered a small sheet and will post a jpeg as I get an
image to work with.

Royal Mail is piloting the addition of unique barcodes to a limited number of Second Class stamps.

It means the stamps in question can be uniquely identified, in a move that could pave the way for innovative customer services in the future.

The integrity of the existing Machin design has been retained and the 2D barcodes will sit alongside the main body of the stamp, separated by a simulated perforation line. Each barcode will be color-matched with the stamp

Personalized with the name, address, and postmark of your choice.

Select either the Tallents House postmark or the alternative location of Windsor, chosen in recognition of its status as one of HM The Queen’s favorite residences.

The stamp features the bas-relief portrait by Arnold Machin OBE, RA, and is affixed to the traditional winged horse First Day envelope used for Definitives.

Available to order until 20th April 2021.

The Germans do it, too - the first stamps with matrix codes were issued on 4 February 2021 (from two different printers, of course, so that there are varieties from day one Rolling Eyes). On top of that, they have changed the color of the postmarks to blue, so that the matrix code will stay legible even under a cancellation.
