I just went through a book that was so damn disorganized I ended up with a headache!! The stamps were totally mixed up - series split up all over the book, stamps repeated all over the place, color reproduction so bad at time I had no idea what stamp it was supposed to be, no time sequence what-so-ever,etc. I still managed to find 3 stamps I wanted but I sure had to work for it. I bet there were several I missed because the book was so bad! Yes I know, for the amount of $$$ it's not worth the effort, but this was crazy. Don't yell at me, just my opinion!! Clown

re: This was ridiculous!

I don't mind the work, but if there was a little bit of work on the sellers part, he/she would sell more stamps. I did find three I really wanted but I'm sure there were more. For a country with many thousands of stamps there is no way you can look them up individually in an album. That's not work, that's needless work, and after a while you leave it because it's not fun anymore. I guess, since I don't sell, I probably have no right to complain. I promise not to go this way again. I've commented on this a few times, I guess it's time to leave this particular topic. By the way, Ian, I really enjoy your books. You say they are not organized, but really they are!

Harvey:-

You are right some are hard work. Nobody is putting a gun to your head to look at it or continuing to look at it.
Personally I say to myself "stuff this for a game of soldiers" and move onto the next one.

Making up a book can be hard work especially if you are starting from a mixed bag or even an envelope with a single country and some times you cannot be bothered with the rigmarole of sorting them out, you just lump them onto stock sheets and so what if a buyer gets a stamp worth a couple of bucks for 6 cents.

After all we are just humans.

Fair comments Ian. But even though no one held a gun to my head I still managed to find a few stamps I wanted. I always look at any books that might interest me and, whether it's hard work or not, I usually find something! By the way, I just looked at your latest Worldwide Mixed book and found two really nice early (Scott's #6 and 7) Mozambique Company stamps I really wanted. I think the key to that kind of book is to at least try to keep the countries together and also keep most of the series together, unless some have to be separated out due to cost. Good work and thanks! Thanks to all the sellers out there, even the ones who make me work a bit harder!

re: This was ridiculous!

Glad you found some items of interest.
I am still needing a few Mozambique Company stamps to complete my collection.
I have this terrible habit of waiting for them turning up as part of a mixed box at auction rather than seeking out individual stamps or sets. I end up with a few duplicates using this method but I enjoy nothing more than going through a mixed box.

Ian - I hope you checked out the book that was just posted! I'm not quite as advanced as you, I just got 25 stamps from Steven which puts me fairly close to complete except I'm missing a couple high denominations and most of a couple of the more expensive series. I've never really concentrated on the area but I think it's time to add it on the end of my want list.

Another complaint - yeah, I know, that's all I ever do! Would you sellers please stop overlapping your stamps, it must be mentioned somewhere in the rules! Sometimes you can't see the denomination of the stamp or whether or not there is damage. I don't think anyone would intentionally hide damage but I really would like seeing all of each stamp. If it means an extra page in your book, so be it. Sorry about the complaint, but I'm sure some of you agree with me.

This is only a suggestion in the Approval Rules Section:-

"E. Suggestions For Better Sales

The following is a short list of suggestions to help sellers achieve better sales, and offer buyers a better experience when viewing approval books.

create books that are neatly organized
offer stamps that are different from those others are selling
make approval book titles specific and describe the contents of the books
limit, or, better yet, do not include damaged stamps that are of low catalog value
price damaged stamps less than sound stamps
make sure every stamp is fully visible, and not covered by part of another stamp or item number
include the catalog number and/or year of issue, as many buyers appreciate this
reduce the price of the stamps in an under-performing approval book
announce new approval books by posting a classified ad in the Discussion Board"

Not a fixed rule.

re: This was ridiculous!

There are NO rules for how books should look or be organized. THEY WERE IN PLACE BUT THEY ARE GONE. Before, the SMALL list of rules we had, were discussed and agreed by the development team, and were intended to facilitate book production But they also treated buyers and sellers equally, with some MINIMUM standards.
Todays lack of rules favors sellers, laissez faire means anything (almost) goes, and sadly it does encourage junk books.
NOT ALL sellers I must say. Many books are gems. But we have junk, from a limited number of sellers, and it is allowed. They probably don't even know it.

Instead of rules being monitored, what we have is mostly suggestions, and they are vague and too often ignored. Think of it: we don't even ask the seller to have a title describing the content, not even a suggestion. (rule 1 used to be: Books must have titles describing the content and fit accepted category groupings).
I for one am very disappointed, and I wish (as a buyer) that we could BLOCK viewing the listings of selected sellers on Approvals, just like we do on Auctions. Then my blood pressure would not sky rocket!

But management tells me, books sell, and no one wants to police the books. If one specifically gets a complaints, it will be looked at. So it is a non subject.
