Well, I just found this O58 with the darker shade, so it must just be a later printing I guess. This plate impression is better than the previous one above right but worse than the one above left.

Here is a scan of the section from my SG 1990 commonwealth.
There do not appear to be shades listed but differing overprints. Yours seems to have an "on C G S" and also an "On S G S" which I am unable to see a note of.
I guess it could stand for on State Gov service rather than on Cochin Gov Service but only guessing.

Thanks for your response sir. I think it is On C G S, but the C is modified/obliterated by a cancel so it looks like an S.

I believe you have 3 different overprints as he "G" are quite different in each overprint. I find the scott examples of the different overprints not very clear but the post from sheepshanks I would say they are o8 o7 and o11

My Scott catalog does not list shades for this issue (Scott# O38). Does anyone know if other catalogs recognize them? The one on the right seems to be a highly deteriorated plate as well.
