Can you help identify this Korean revenue? I just don't have any references for this area, and I haven't been able to find anything specific online.

I'm wondering if Barefoot might have catalogued it?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Yes, Barefoot lists this as South Korea revenue #24.

It's from a 1948 set of eight values (plus two shades) showing four scenes from the "Tong Dae Mun Temple".

This value shows the "Unjin Buddha".

This seems to be the statue (from the Korean Wikipedia)

Described via Google Translate as:

"Gwanchoksa stone statue of Maitreya Bodhisattva (Republic of Korea Treasure No. 218)"

and

"The stone Buddha statue of Gwancheoksa Temple located in Gwanchok-dong is the largest stone Buddha statue in the East, with a height of 18m, built in 968 (19, Gwangjong of Goryeo).

Eunjinmireuk represents the Buddhist art of the Goryeo Dynasty.

It was designated as Korea Treasure No.218.

Next to the Maitreya Bodhisattva, there are five-story stone pagoda and stone lanterns (Treasure No. 232)."

That's an impressive statue!

That's outstanding research, Nigel! Thank you very much!

Just curious, does Barefoot attempt to price it?

Thanks, it was fascinating to learn about this statue.Happy

Yes, it's priced at £2.00 in the 2006 South East Asia Revenues catalogue.

The Barefoot catalogues typically give one price for each stamp rather than separate ones for mint and used.

Thanks for checking the cv, Nigel!

And, especially, thanks again for doing the research (on the Korean Wikipedia, no less!) and providing the background on the subject of the stamp.

My hat's off, as always!
