Cool stamps!
Maybe a die problem or a foreign object?

Do you know how the stamp was printed?
Flat plate, rotary plate, offsett etc.?

Not listed in the 2023 Unitrade either. If I were going to guess I'd say a foreign object, if it were a constant error it would have probably been mentioned by now. When my wife and I started collecting Canada in the early 1970's we used to fly speck every stamp. There were huge numbers of little donuts of colour and many minor colour shifts, not much of this sort of thing! So maybe there is a bit of value in this sort of thing but usually the variety had to be constant, for example the missing bird on the totem pole is #572i. I think we had to buy that, I don't think we ever found one by fly specking. By the way there are 5 stages in the missing bird but I don't think the price reflects that. Good find though, definitely a keeper in my opinion.
Harvey, is the printing method listed in the Cat.
I'm mostly likey wrong, but it could be offsett printed!
My Unitrade is in another location right now but the interwebz say that this was printed by photogravure and recess. With 26.4 million printed, anything recurring would be identified by now (you'd think).
I'd also suggest using a little magnification to rule out damage, such as a scratch/scuff.

This really is not my area, I have never made a study of how stamps are produced at anything above the basic level. It has never really interested me that much. According to Unitrade this stamp is "Engraved ( 1 colour )and Photogravure ( 3 colours ), panes of 50 ". What exactly that means really means little to me, it's not really an area I have much interest in. I have always enjoyed collecting stamps and how they are produced has never been of great interest to me. I wish I could be of more help, sorry! There are many videos on YouTube about the production of stamps, I guess I should watch a few.
Is it known printing process of the "8"?
Geez. This was so long ago I forgot I posted it. Not even sure if I still have that stamp!
It's probably with that winning lottery ticket I was going to cash in to buy "Harvey's" Canadian stamp collection!
If (I don't know) how the 8 was printed, I'm suggesting if the 8 was printed by the offsett printing method that might explain the missing part in the 8!
Has anyone ever come across this?
I don't ever "flyspeck" but this one jumped out at me as I (unfortunately) separated a pair to throw in an Auction lot. The other one didn't have this variation so that may have been a tragic error on my part!
I have the 2012 Canadian Unitrade Catalogue and it's not listed.
Thanks, David.
