I will reveal the answers, and announce the winners of the three prizes when all the prizes have been won.
I'm just bumping this up to keep it on the recent unreads for most people.
Remember that the counts towards the winners is for the correct answers properly submitted to me. Wrong answers do not count towards the needed 13. You can still get in and have a chance to win a prize.
Our Auctioneer is going above and beyond - generous with his TIME and his STAMPS! Wow! What a guy!
So let's show some appreciation - let's see some THUMBS UP for Michael! EVERYONE "Like" his post! Let's see a few dozen at least!
signed, Terri the cheerleader LoL!
i think he's also higlighting our incompetence, since we have yet to get 13 right answers.
THE RESULTS ARE IN! THE CONTEST IS CLOSED.
There were 22 answers submitted.
15 were correct
5 were wrong
2 were disqualified for not following the instructions
The correct answer I was looking for is: Queen Elizabeth was trained as a mechanic. Almost everyone added truck driver which was also part of her WWII duties, but it was her mechanic training that I was looking for.
The winners:
the 2nd person to submit the correct answer = david13617
the 13th person to submit the correct answer = sheepshanks
The consolation question asked for the reason for the 2nd and 13th answers. The answer is that is my birthday (February 13).
the winner of the consolation prize = pogopossum
David and Victor, to claim your prize, send me a private message with your address.
Geoffrey, I shall contact you via private message regarding your $13.00 prize. Due to Discussion Board rules, I can't say what it is here it here.
Thanks to everyone who played the game. I got some interesting responses, and some interesting history too.
Keep an eye out. I shall be offering another similar contest in the near future. The prize on this one seems to have an error in the Scott Catalogue listing. I have contacted Scott about it. They are researching the matter. I need to keep it handy in case they need pictures.
Michael
And thanks everyone for the birthday wishes! Unfortunately it's going to be freaking cold here on Saturday. In the teens, and hopefully no ice or snow!
Thanks Michael, not often I ever win anything, not even an argument with the wife.
Talking of cold we are in a period of intense cold weather here in Manitoba with wind chills down to minus 50c, daytime highs of -25, nighttime lows of minus 35. Had to put a long sleeved t shirt on when I went out to fill up the bird feeders!
great fun, Michael, and thanks for offering prizes and fun facts.
it's great to be among the outliers, wrong about the Queen and the 2/13. but luxuriating in my own consistency
Have a Happy Birthday Michael. We have been in a Wind Chill Advisory that was supposed to end at noon today. It has now been extended through Sunday.
Michael,
Thanks for a fun contest. Hope the Queen was able to clean all the grease off her hands!
Have a Happy and Safe Birthday this Saturday.
David
Michael, your prize arrived today all secure. Thank you very much, your generosity is very much appreciated.
Strangely, despite your Texas weather problems there was no snow or ice damage. Guess you have warmed up a bit now.
Thank you again,
Vic
To celebrate my upcoming birthday, I am giving away 2 complete used sets of the US Famous Americans issue (Scott 859-893, 2020 catalog value $16.05).
All SOR members are eligible. Outside the US, your package will have a customs label. If you don't want a customs label, then do not enter this drawing.
Answer me the following question:
What profession was Queen Elizabeth II trained for?
To enter the contest, send me a private message with your answer (no email, and do not post the answer on this thread). Only one answer per person is permitted.
The second and the thirteenth person to provide the correct answer (or at least the answer I'm looking for) will win the stamps. Why the second and the thirteenth correct answers? Be the first to answer that, and not also win the stamps, and you will win a consolation prize.
