Came across this in a multiple box lot of 42 new and used stamp albums...

...just what is it?

A seal, yes. Typical European-looking letter seal for use by the US Consulate in Ghent, Belgium. Very nice.

Edit: Just checked around and found that similar seals in design/colour were used for the US Consulates in other European cities.
They would make a nice little sideline collection, especially on covers !!
