Here is a link to the Philatelic Society of Lancaster County, PA. http://lcps-stamps.org/history-mission/
Go to their resources page and check out their digital library. They have dozens of books as PDF for download. I am currently reading “Paper Chase”, The Amenities of Stamp Collecting, By Alvin F. Harlow, Henry Holt and Company, New York, 1940. It's an interesting read on the early days of Philately.

Thanks very much for posting that link, Vince! That's quite an extensive online assemblage! Looking forward to digging into some of those.
I managed to acquire a copy of the book, Milestones of the Philatelic Literature of the 19th Century, which was published by the Club de Monaco, a couple of weeks ago and have been re-reading the parts I had completed before as well as reading new parts of the book. I continue to find it an incredible resource detailing the history of stamps, stamp collecting, and related publications.
Jerrel,
Where did you acquire the book from? I'd like to get a copy of that book also.

I purchased the only available copy that a local collector had available so that will not be much help. One of the major philatelic literature dealers had a copy available at one time although shipping was very expensive so I never made the acquisition from him. It might be worthwhile to contact pbbooks in Louisville, KY or the literature dealer that is located in London.

Bookfinder listed three copies, all in French, with the least expensive starting at $192, plus shipping.
One must really want it, or just welcome the challenge of learning French at the same time one encounters early Philately.

The book contains both English and French text versions for all content, but, yes, it is not inexpensive.
Just borrowed the book "Milestones of the Philatelic Literature of the 19th Century" from a fellow collector which was published in 2013 by the Club de Monte-Carlo and have read the first 214 pages. It is a spectacular introduction to the early period of stamp collecting with sections on collectors, albums, catalogs, and publications of all types. I particularly enjoyed some detailed descriptions of the first produced stamp albums and the succeeding products that appeared during the 1800's.
I tried accessing the Club de Monte-Carlo's web site to see if I could purchase a copy of the book but it does not appear that the site offers a store (or perhaps they don't have additional copies available).
It was really quite an introduction to the entire concept of philatelic literature for me. I recently subscribed to the American Philatelic Research Library and got a few copies of their quarterly journal for the last year.
Does anyone know of any other organizations that produce similar resources? Especially in English although I have been making some progress with some French and Norwegian resources thanks to an incredible series of translation phrases that appeared in a Norwegian three volume resource on the stamps of Norway.
