I found this lurking in amongst my Great Britain stamps and I am not really sure what it is. Any help identifying it would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for any replies!

It is an embossed printed revenue stamp, usually used on a document or a cheque.

Thank you so much for the lovely response Roy, as well as for posting some samples so that I can picture it in its 'natural habitat'. What a shame it isn't still attached to the original document it was on, but such is life I suppose.
