Hello Brechinite,
The Royal Mail website has the following statement which sounds promising:
Royal Mail
International Incident Bulletin
Last updated: Tuesday 29 December 2020
Welcome to our international incident bulletin; a round up of any issues which may be affecting mail services to and from countries around the world.
We keep this information as up-to-date as possible, with information supplied to Royal Mail by the various foreign national postal authorities.
Coronavirus Impact
Royal Mail and Parcelforce services to Europe have been reopened and are now fully operational.
For items posted today, customers should expect a delay up to 2 working days for some countries.
We're working with our airline and postal/courier partners across the globe to maintain services, however delays should be expected.
Many countries have implemented special measure to combat the spread of Coronavirus COVID-19, especially for signature service to maintain social distancing.
The number of countries we can access is changing daily.
We strongly advise not to send items to destinations listed as ‘On suspension’.
(This is followed by a long list of country links with various updates.)
New problems in 2023. Just heard back from an eBay seller in the UK that Royal Mail is requesting that no international mail be posted due to a cyber incident. Not knowing whether this has been posted elsewhere on SOR, I'll go ahead and provide the text of the Royal Mail's International Incident Bulletin:

Service update: 12th of January 2023
Royal Mail is continuing to experience severe service disruption to our international export services following a cyber incident.
We are temporarily unable to despatch items to overseas destinations. In order to prevent a build-up of export items in our network and support a faster recovery when we restore service, Royal Mail is continuing to ask customers not to post international export items until further notice.
Items that have already been despatched may be subject to delays. We would like to sincerely apologise to impacted customers for any disruption this incident is causing.
Our import operations continue to perform a full service, with some minor delays.Parcelforce Worldwide export services are still operating to all international destinations though customers should expect minor delays.Royal Mail’s UK services are still operational.
Our teams are continuing to work around the clock to resolve this disruption and we will update you as soon as we have more information. An investigation into the incident is ongoing and we are working with external experts. We have reported the incident to our regulators and the relevant security authorities.
Here is the BBC report on the international mail hold:

Royal Mail:- Just another useless organisation that relies on digital for everything and failed to keep up their security on their computer systems.
What do you expect from a company that introduced the Horizon System from Fuji that was full of faults that cost people their lives, businesses, homes, money and reputations.
Aye well we have a saying in Old Caledonia "what a bunch of plonkers!".
There is the United States Pillock Service.
Just got this in the mail today.

Its done quite well being posted on the 7th of December.
When you consider that since the 7th of December there have been 4 or 5 days of strikes plus 4 days of National Holidays.
My neighbour received a letter yesterday that had been posted on the 8th of December.
Where from?
Aberdeen..................36 miles away!!
Been down to my local Post Office today and was told that ALL mail going outside of the UK is suspended due to covid.
Have been on the Royal Mail website and it says nothing about mail being suspended.
I will wait a couple of days and try again!!
