I never bothered getting the program to enable me to snipe others, but that's another post and I've already done that. I just got sniped on E-Bay on an item I sort of wanted. I put my maximum bid in and lost, searched the same item and found a buy-it-now $10 cheaper than what I had on the item I just lost. I quickly bought the item and will relax in the glow of KARMA! Big Grin

sniping is so much less lethal in philately than in some other occupations

it's one of the nice things, or so I think, about SOR. Such sneaky approach to winning doesn't exist.

But, then again, you might have to wait longer

re: Just got sniped on E-Bay, but...

All depends on the item. There are items you can find every day on Ebay and such you find only once.
With some of the common items I play for a long time, like the federal ducks RW1 and all other federal duck stamps. I have been putting low bids for many months as I do not care if I get it or not; there is always the next chance.Happy

But even then, I managed to shoot 9 different federal ducks in only a 2-week period and I am considering a seasonal closure on my hunting. There are few ducks remaining to add to what I already have. Maybe next fall I will shoot two more and call it a season again.Cool

We were at an APS show in Hartford some years ago and a woman at a booth was selling ducks for a dollar apiece...i was not that familiar with them but i purchased 4 or 5. She said one guy purchased 600 of them. Of course these were not the expensive ones...cataloging them they probably were in the $4.00 to $6.00 range.

"ducks for a dollar apiece.."

I bought about 24 different ones in 3 lots that ended up costing me $0.70 a piece but generally, even the common ones can easily fetch $3 if sold as singles.

Anyways, sniping is fun, but unfortunately I have seen the selection of stamps offered on Ebay deteriorate greatly over the past 10 years! Now it takes forever to find something worth bidding on !
