I have been selling online for twenty years. Only lost two items during all that time. One was a shipment to Canada many years ago; I believe that I was cheated on that one but no way to prove it. The other was to Egypt. Both got refunds. Neither had tracking (that was before shipping of merchandise outside of the USA required a customs form).
I stopped selling overseas about two years ago. Much less of hassle. And I have never had a lost shipment in the United States. Only once have I had a shipment damaged and that was about a year ago. I had even packaged that order in a photo-mailer, so the envelope was composed of a light cardboard. The photo-mailer somehow got all scrunched up.
I have had no incidents of lost mail until now with two purchases shipped just before Thanksgiving. One finally showed with a torn corner (was never in informed delivery) and still waiting for the other.
I sold 6 USSS booklets and some old post office new issue flyers for the cost of postage; put them in a brown envelop and sent them off.
Later the buyer said he got the flyers but asked if the booklets were coming separately since they were not in with the flyers. Turns out the envelop got ripped, and all the booklet fell out.
I eventually got 4 of the booklets back because they still had my mailing label on them and they were put back in the mail. I remailed him the 4 booklets and added 3 new ones, but more securely wrapped this time.
There is a line between the mailings that require
a small hand grenade to open the the envelopes and
those that arrive split and torn along the edges.
In the latter case occasionally some stamps may
have dropped out, probably accidentally and if
low value are not worth the angast generated.. I
just find another seller.
i sell my duplicates here and covers on ebay..i have never lost a shipment on a Stamporama transaction, on ebay if a person in the U.S. says they never received the item..well, i have to sell a few to make up for it. If a ebay customer in a foreign country says they did not receive their item...ouch, it smarts...but if we want to sell thats just the way it is.
