on the longevity of US stamps, any US stamp that includes "forever" on it is good, well, forever. Stamps will include a description of the type of rate they are paying IF they are paying anything other than standard domestic first class one ounce (28g) rate.
I'll try to find the amount you'll need to affix, but the USPS site is anything but intuitive or helpful.
Current International rate for up to a one-ounce letter to the UK is $1.20

A first-class international letter up to 3.5 oz (juuust shy of 100g) is $4.32 to "price groups" 3-5, which includes the UK. $3.82 to price groups 6-9, $2.18 to Canada, and $3.00 to Mexico.
Price groups can be found here: https://pe.usps.com/text/Imm/immpg.htm
The envelope also cannot be more than 1/4 inch thick

and is the A4 envelope a standard or large envelope?
A4 is 210 mm x 297 mm (about 8.3 in x 11.7 in, a little narrower and longer than your American letter sheets), the envelope would be a C4 one which is 229 mm x 324 mm (about 9 in x 12.75 in). I guess that's a large letter everywhere in the world ...

Good morning Gentlemen,
I am hoping that someone out there may be willing to help me. My son has to send a stamped self addressed envelope to the USA and needs to know how much postage to put on it. It will be an A4 envelope up to 100gms for posting to the UK.
Also, do US stamps stay valid for ever, as UK stamps do?
Thankyou one and all,
Kim
