Agreed-I found the same thing.

They have a message stating "Closed for Maintenance"
Same here. http://www.stamps2go.com/ (http instead of https) says: "Sorry ... we are closed for maintenance."
Thanks for the clarifications.
Best,
Dan
Hmm. It was open yesterday morning and again this morning. We're taking a break in Cornwall, on the Lizard. I went on line before breakfast and filled some gaps in Denmark and Sweden. More to get tomorrow morning, I hope.
Oh. I see what you mean. Hope they get going again soon - I've got some Danish newspaper stamps to buy. But never mind, I can take the boat out while I wait.
Day 2 and still not on line and no communication from them. Did they close down permanently?
From their Facebook page:
"At 5:41AM (ET) on September 6th Stamps2Go suffered a catastrophic failure of our web server. Although we have a recent copy of our data, it will be necessary to completely rebuild the server and software environment. This may take up to a few days to complete ... so please have patience with us.
We know that this is a tremendous inconvenience for our sellers and those who use Stamps2Go for their stamp purchases. Please accept our apologies, and know that we are working hard to get everything back on line again.
More news later."
So, that's probably why they are offline.
That is different than the previous "Closed for Maintenance" notification. Commercial transactional websites typically have significant failsafe architecture and much more robust disaster plans than other websites. Having a single point of failure like one server going south on a commercial website is a contingency management issue.

Might it be a cover for some other problem?
I note that we just passed the end of a month
and sometimes bills are not paid on time.
Blaming a disruption on a server catastrophe
might be akin to "The dog ate my homework."
capn_ed has it right. I contacted the webmasters (Matt & Paul) on Stamps2Go with the following:
Dear Guys,
I know you have your hands full unscrambling the website issue(s). My stamp club (Stamporama) is asking and speculating about what's going on. (Our membership is International with over 2,000+ members.) If you were to put out a statement, I would see to it that it would be circulated widely. Let me know if I can be of any help there.
Best,
Dan

and received the following response:
Hi Dan,
The brief message you should be seeing on the home page of the website pretty much sums things up.
Matt and I are working to build a new server. We're looking forward to getting everything back on line in the next day or two ... hopefully.

Good call, Capn_ed.

I'm surprised they don't have cloud server backup that takes over when something like this happens.
But then again... we tend to forget that many operations that "look big" are actually run on a shoestring budget, on an old computer in someone's basement.
I hope they get it fixed with a new more robust setup; always liked that site.
As was previously noted, the site code and design reflected an older implementation. These kinds of servers (lower budget, lower tech, running older software, and contain transactions) are ‘juicy low hanging fruit’ for hacking morons and ransomware thieves; hopefully this is not what happened to them.

Latest news on the Stamps2go homepage, as of now (1:44 AM, Sunday September 13th CDT)
"We are currently testing our new server and expect to be back on line before the end of this weekend. If you had an active shopping cart on September 6th when we suffered the crash, your cart will still be available when the new server comes on line. If you are a seller who has pending orders, we have extended the period to acknowledge the order and enter a shipping date."
As of right now (12:30pm US Pacific time), Stamps2Go appears to be up and running again. Haven't tried actually doing anything yet, but I could access my account and browse.
Has anyone tried to get on the web site of stamps2go.com?
I have tried but it seems to be down.
