Henry...
Just a quick post to tell you how much I enjoy reading your various installments re Germany and Area. There both well-written and informative. And provide insight into new collecting areas of which I previously unaware.
Particularly enjoyed learning how the long-running 5-Yr Plan series was "co-opted".
Jim
Thanks for this nice complement Jim.
Appreciate it.
Henry,
Thanks for your very informative post. I had no knowledge of this "Combat" group before. Now it will be necessary to go through all my DDR stamps in question to look for these forgeries!
David
Suprise, Suprise
This is what the postman brought me yesterday afternoon.
My KgU number 7 certified by Heiko König that I bought in Germany.
Congratulations, nice stamp
Mel
Actually, the title of the thread is a little misleading - I had half expected to read about stamp forgeries that were actually done on behalf of the GDR, not against it. Do they exist, too? Just wondering.

I meant: Were forgeries of "Western" stamps made in the "East" or for "Eastern" purposes? What you show (including the certified item) is the other direction.
Kampf gruppe gegen die Unmenschlichkeit (KgU)
The Combat Group Against Inhumanity (KgU) was an anti-communist and partly militant organization,
who supported the resistance against the SED rule in the GDR from West Berlin, carried out acts of sabotage and attacks and carried out espionage in military and civilian areas.
It was largely funded by US intelligence agencies.
It was founded in 1948 by Rainer Hildebrandt and Ernst Benda among others, received a license from the Allied Command as a political organization on April 23, 1949 and dissolved in 1959.
In addition to espionage in the GDR and acts of sabotage that were intended to destabilize the GDR, stamps were also falsified to the detriment of the GDR Post.
All propaganda and "espionage" counterfeits were actually used and therefore exist without exception both in mint never hinged as well as in stamped form.
The first propaganda forgery concerned the postage stamp issue of the GDR with the portrait of the President of the GDR Wilhelm Pieck.
A (gallows) rope was placed around his neck and the country name changed to "Undeutsche Undemokratische Diktatur".
The values of 12 and 24 pfennigs of the series were falsified according to this template.
No. 1 and 2
The following propaganda forgeries concerned a total of six values ??from the GDR free stamp series "Five Year Plan".
At the value of 12 pfennigs, the country name was replaced in 1952 with the request "Work slowly in the Undeutsche Undemokratischen Republik".
The unchanged brand image shows a farmer, a craftsman and academics.
No. 3
In the following propaganda falsification of the value of 24 pfennigs, only the country name was changed to "Undeutsche Undemokratische Republik".
The stamp-image with Karl-Marx-Allee was given the new caption "Berlin Stalinallee / Straße des 17. Juni".
No. 4
Since the original stamp of 24 Pfennig of the five-year plan series in 1953 received a new value by means of printing,
such was also printed on the propaganda forgery.
The forgery exists with and without imprint.
No. 7
In 1954 the next two propaganda fakes in this series were made.
The fake value of 6 pfennigs remained unchanged this time, but instead the symbol for the five-year plan, which was in the lower right corner of every stamp in this series, was replaced by the symbol for free elections (swearing hand with "W") .
However, the brand image showing two workers shaking hands has changed a lot.
On the propaganda forgery, one worker gives Walter Ulbricht a slip of paper labeled "Free Elections" and sends it to Moscow.
No. 5 and 6
Forged war postings of two different values of the GDR official stamps caused great damage: they were used to send letters with incorrect production instructions to numerous companies.
No. 8 and 9
The last forgery of the five-year plan series concerned the value of 20 pfennigs with the picture of the Kurhaus Bad Elster.
The caption was changed here to "Elster - Bad der Werkbonzen".
The symbol and new country name were not inserted.
No. 10
