Not the clearest photo, but this stamp could be from the edge of a sheet. Also known as a "straight edge". Some collectors like them, others don't, but this stamp is damaged anyway. Many US stamps were printed in large printing sheets that were later cut into four ordinary sheets for sale, and there was no need for perforations along the cutting lines.
