I just thought I'd pass this on. I ordered a stamp through E-Bay two months ago from a dealer I have ordered from several times. I almost gave up and asked for a refund, I'm glad I held on! The stamp arrived this morning and I'm happy with it. It had a customs form attached, but no tracking, so I have no idea why it took so long. Moral of the story is that in these trying times it might take a bit longer. By the way, it wasn't coming from overseas, just from Washington State to NS Canada. The opportunity to leave the seller feedback has passed, but the time taken was not his fault and I E-mailed him to tell him the item arrived. HAVE PATIENCE!

At the moment postage times are a complete gamble. I was sent a document from Oregon in the US to Vancouver, Canada just as the Covid lockdown started.

When it had not arrived seven weeks later, I was sent another copy. A week later both envelopes arrived in my mailbox at the same time.

No mail from or to Algeria from everywhere (inside and outside), since more of two months due to covid 19 containment, no normal flighs on the Algerian sky.
The only way for mail are "EMS" or "DHL" but the costs are very huge.
We expected to return to normal life by early June but the government extented it for more 15 other days, till mid June, we do hope return to normal life after this date.
I have many pending covers to be mailed, I asked my buyers a patience for this independant of my will situation

re: patience required

I wish the message of patience could reach all buyers. I've had numerous enquiries about the location of items, some quite aggressive. I've sent items to the US and UK that have arrived quickly, yet one I sent to Switzerland hasn't left the country yet (and the buyer involved Ebay to get his money back).

This from Australia Post:

Economy service is fully suspended due to flight cancellations, airport closures and the measures implemented to limit and reduce the spread of COVID-19.

Please leave a minimum of 10 business days after the estimated delivery date below to raise queries on items travelling via air and 30 business days after the estimated delivery date for items travelling via sea.

For items sent between 25th March and 30th April, additional delivery delays on top of the below have occurred. We are working hard to process all items on hand and deliver them as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience.

Standard Service Zone 4 - USA 25-35 business days
Standard Service Zone 4 - Canada 40-60 business days
Standard Service Zone 6 - UK 12-20 business days

I've asked customers not to buy from me if they're not prepared to accept these delays.

We live in unprecedented times, but some people waited 7 years for mail after WWII was declared.

Also, it may not be the Post Office. Most dealers are older and may have gotten sick or afraid to go out the post office.

I have a store on HipStamp and I don't keep my stamps at home. I have an off site office. I am also immune compromised due to a bone marrow transplant many years ago. I have my store in vacation mode which still allows my items to be sold. In my shipping terms I tell my buyers that there may be a delay in shipping. For the month of April, I was in total lock down being in NJ. Every sale I had, I reached out the the buyer and reminded them that my store was in vacation mode and I was not sure when I would be able to ship. Each and every one of them were very understanding.

Starting in May, I started venturing out. I was very disappointed to see that people were not wearing masks and social distancing in the common area of the office building. It took a while to get all my orders out but I am now caught up and will still remain in vacation mode because who knows where this virus is going to go. It's looking better now and I hope it continues. Both my wife and I are out of work due to this pandemic and this is our only income beside unemployment.

Be Safe...Be Kind ... Definitely words to live by these days (and every day going forward!)

(Almost) instant gratification is becoming a rare species these days, and maybe we should learn to adapt to it (at least for a little while). It is not the fault of "Seller-X" that you don't have your stamps when you think they should be there. They are just moving now at the rate of the 1923 mail service when coal-fired ships (not supersonic jets) transported letters/packages. Take the extra time to read a book or look through your albums in wonder of the amazing collection you already have!

When I concluded my recent sales cycle, I sent a simple PM to purchasers outside Canada/US ...

Hey ... hope you are doing well in ...

Given all the horror stories about international mail shenanigans, I'm thinking it might be best to hold off your invoice and mailing for now. It's just over $... so it won't bankrupt me, and I don't want your stamps going astray.

Let me know if you're ok with that. I will probably have more Approval Books and Auction items up in about 2-3 weeks, so let me know if there's anything in particular you'd like me to look for.

Cheers, Dave.

No angry responses, just very nice replies as should be expected from our fellow SOR members:
..."Of course. Better that the "hugely valuable" package is in your hands than [in the post office]".
..."Happy to wait".
..."Thanks for your message. Yes, it would be good if we could wait a time before closing the business".

Stay safe and have fun with the stamps you have sitting in front of you (or in my case, in all the bins behind me).

Dave.

re: patience required

Harvey, let me share with you my experience in this exact same situation.

What was different? I managed to convince myself that I ran into another Ebay seller who thought the price I paid was too low and wasn't willing to ship.

So after waiting 2 months I opened a case and let the seller know if the item arrives I will pay for it again.

To my complete surprise the item arrived 7 days after the transaction was refunded.

I logged into my Paypal account and tried to return the refund. No chance in hell! There is no option for doing that; the seller's e-mail is not disclosed. I chatted with Paypal to no avail. They said : deal with Ebay.

So I called Ebay. "Give your e-mail to the seller" - they said. How am I supposed to do that when you have software running designed to prevent this from happening?!

I don't know what they did, but I managed to send my e-mail to the seller so he can send me a Paypal request.

The whole process was brutal (to put it mildly)

But I am still waiting on a large registered lot mailed from Asia in June by snail mail. My patience with this one is also running out (4 months now!) and to make matters worse Canada does not provide tracking on registered mail from Asia. (no idea why).
