Looks faded, but if Prus green and blk it is Soviet Union Scott #3064a. 75 cent mint and 30 cent used.
Hope that helps.
I haven't got a Scott catalog, but it is Michel # 3303, issued on 15 December 1966 to commemorate the 100th birthday of Azerbaijani writer Dzhalil Mamedkulizade. Colnect says it is Yvert & Tellier # 3180, Stanley Gibbons # 3256, and Sn (whatever that is) # 3064A.
Stampworld dot com has it issued December 15. Why Scott ignores it is anybody's guess.
Scott's doesn't ignore it, it's just an SOB to find. They show the first stamp in the series and then list the others by "who they are" and if you don't read the Russian on the stamp, then you have a problem. Most of the rest of the series was issued in 1965, this one was 1966 and was several pages away from the rest of the series in my Minkus album. I had this stamp mounted in the album for several years before I discovered it's number. I number my stamps in my album. There are a few more like this but I have them all figured out now after scanning Scott's catalog very carefully.
Thanks to all who provided information. Stamp was in a glassine envelope when I scanned it. I noticed when sorting some Russian stamps using Scott catalog, the illustrations were terrible not to scale.
The Russian series with single illustration scream out the need for Cyrillic alphabet grid in your catalog. Once you line up english alphabet equivalents the names drop out quickly to ID catalog number.
Charlie- Thanks for tip. here is another I need Scott#. Scanned through glassine
John,
I guess I don't understand why you would ask for ID help, then scan thru a glassine?
Certainly makes it harder to see for those of us trying to assist...
I should have stated it is a 1966 stamp. I thought one could tell by the color. corrected scan follows. Musicman you made a good point. I will scan actual stamp from now on.
Thank you, John.
Not always, but sometimes color variations are a clue - a clear image certainly helps.
Try Scott #3174
Scott #3174. They even have a picture.
Mi:SU 3191, Sn:SU 3174, Yt:SU 3072, Sg:SU 3263.
Most stamps are easy to find on Colnect.
Find country, select one of the options, I mainly use year and face value. If the stamp is on Colnect, it will usually have a picture and all the various cat numbers as displayed above. Sn is a Scott number. Looking under Russia will not find this this stamp in Colnect because of the date range. Look under Soviet Union.

Most of the time if I have a stamp it looks familiar, this one didn't ring a bell at all. I collect Russia to 1985 and, except for some early stuff and some S. sheets, I am fairly close to complete. There are just so damn many Russian stamps that it is impossible to recognize them all. That two stamp set wasn't familiar at all!! Does anyone out there collect Russia up to the present? How many album pages does it consist of - from #1 to the end of 1985, with BOB, represents two large Minkus albums for me!
Mel- thank you for the tip on Colnect. It makes it easy to catalog stamps by year of issue.
I have looked in all my russian stamp catalogs and cannot find this stamp. Can anybody give me a scott#? The catalogs I use are Zagorsky, Stanley Gibbons and Scott.
