"Who celebrates a rate increase?"
It is actually a first day cover of the stamp. The stamp was issued as a definitive stamp at a time of frequent rate increases. The new rate was not yet approved, so it was unknown what the rate would be. It ended up being an 18c stamp. The "C" stamp was issued 7 months later as a 20c stamp under similar conditions.

Anything with a Bald Eagle on it is OK with me
It IS cool looking!
I just can't help it - while indeed beautifully executed, the monochrome design and the dark clouds in particular look more than a little mournful to me. Of course, a rate increase is not exactly a cause for celebrations, at least not for the customers ...

Being a former cachet publisher, I see this as one of those stamps where ya think, "What the heck can I design for this butt ugly stamp!"
Note that the "B" stamp also was issued quickly, so Artcraft didn't have a lot of time to ponder that decision.
RocketMan is no longer a member. I remember him as an ethusiastic beginner where each new discovery was an utter treat. Maybe the intensity was unsustainable.
Or, like Phil said, maybe he was deputized to carry mail and did ride the Muskmobile with a sack of cacheted first flight covers.
if so, i expect to see counterfeits, which will eventually lead us to ElonGate
Come on back to earth, Johnny; miss that childlike wonder we saw in your posts
Hi all,
I stumbled upon this FDC in my collection and it struck me as being a bit "odd".
Most FDC's seem to have a more festive feel to their release, but this one announcing a "rate change" isn't so festive, in my opinion, LOL!
Who celebrates a rate increase? The postal service?
Just kind of different "FDC release" I guess(???)
Just my 2 cents!
