The 10 and 12 pf versions have both an engraved and typo version.

One has a solid background and shading on the face (LEFT), the other has a cross-hatch background and shading (RIGHT).

I couldn't find a description in Scott and I've Googled this to no avail.

So which is which?

Many thanks, Dave.

My guess: The one on the right is engraved; because....it looks engraved.

"...because it looks engraved..."

Your analysis and incisive discourse Big Grin makes sense to me, with a Grade 13 Art credit, thinking that something engraved would be sharp and clear while something printed on an old typography machine would be more blurry and less defined.

Thanks! Dave.

In a 16 Jan 2020 thread:"For people who do not know German" HockeyNut had translated very well (from Michel cat.)the types of prints.

Gerom refers to this post :

I have translated that from the Michel Catalog.

Dave,

I do not know the technical translation of all these types of printing.

Letterpress (abbreviated Bdr.)
Embossed printing (abbreviated to Prägedr. Or Pdr.)
Letterset (abbreviated Ldr.)
Light printing (abbreviated as Lichtdr.)
Offset printing (abbreviated Odr.)
Intaglio printing (abbreviated StTdr.)
Halftone Gravure Printing (abbreviated RaTdr.)

Buchdruck = Bdr. and stands for Letterpress
Stich Tief Druck = StTdr. and stands for Intaglio printing

I can not be clearer than that

I took this sage advice and tried Googling "Buch Druck".

Turns out it is the stage name for a Romanian adult film star...

Next time I'll just try a translation site.

Thanks, Dave.

I think I wasn't too clear (I know a little English)
I did not refer to Google for search but to: https://austrianphilately.com/german.htm
The terms in German are hard to translate and that's why I was very happy when I found this site.
I hope it helps you:

Hey George, I think you were pretty clear (now that I re-read your post). I was just trying to be funny.

And your English is probably a lot better than my Romanian!!!

Thanks for the scan from the site, that does look useful.

Dave.
