Image Not Found I have just found this The top half of this stamp doesn't look right. The 2 on the left hand side has a extra line, The G in Postage is joined, A line going through Cents?, P of Postage isn't right, C in America isn't right looks like a extra blob, Looks like a star where the line is going through. This certainly doesn't look right????

In addition to over-inking It looks like it might be a bit of a worn plate, which is not unusual with these stamps.

Are there any other naked eye varieties other than the broken hat, or are they all magnifying-glass types?

Depending on how good your eyesight is, the frame break at the lower right-hand corner of the Scott 231 stamp may meet your criterion. It was a progressive problem that grew longer over time. Ziggy can provide more info, but here is one example of the full break.

Thanks Tom. I'll look for that one.

Does anyone know if there's a handy reference of the flaws?

You can check

Encyclopedia Of Plate Verities On U.S. Bureau-Printed Postage Stamps French, Loran C. 1979

I don't have my volume handy to check for you.
