For best results, take pictures in a dark room so normal light does not affect what you see. This is important for stamps that have a weak response and checking for afterglow (usually hard to see on US stamps).

When I was doing the Famous Americans series, I created a template using known tagging varieties. That way I could compare what I had with know "overall tagging" and "solid tagging" examples:
