I cut a little border around the stamp, and then put it in my stock pages.
Hi Smauggie,
Thank you for answering my "possibly obvious" newbie question.
You have confirmed my suspicion!

On the basis that a picture is worth a lot of words, this is a page from the self adhesive Machins. The mounts are cut to size for each stamp as often the backing is of a variable size.
I also usually just trim around the stamp. If it’s on colored paper, I use a little cigarette lighter fluid to remove it, then put it on safer paper
Hi guys,
REALLY appreciate your further advice and the picture was VERY helpful.
Thank you greatly!

Don't self-adhesive stamps left on their backing tend to discolor over the longer term?
Early US issues did have the issue but the USPS changed the manufacturing process to prevent this. However, only time will tell on the long term effects.
Hi all,
I just picked up this stamp book today and it has pushed me to start a new "US Flag Stamp" collection.
But first, how to properly remove these stamps? I would think cut around them with scissors and leave them on the backing paper?
What techniques do you all prefer?
I'm a newbie and have yet to mount a self-adhesive stamp.
Thanks!
JR
