I use it as a handy tool for identifying stamps. A lot of older stamps don't show the year of issue, but on Stampworld you can go to the country and and check value or currency in the Search engine. You can then find the year of issue so you cand find it in Scott, SG, etc.
I've been using it for a while especially trying to find an illustration of a stamp from a set that neither Gibbons or Scott illustrate.
Their "prices" seem a bit high.
They give Watermarks codes but I can never find an illustration of them.
I've used the site for years now and I really like it, but like Ian I think their stamp values are a bit off.

I fell into the habit of using StampWorld to identify the stamp, and using Colnect for the details.
Why? I found the search menu window in StampWorld easier to use, but I preferred the data presentation & catalog numbers in Colnect.
Hint: Rather than saving the Colnect details to a text file, or saving the Colnect URL to a list/spreadsheet, I might start using the Windows Snipping Tool (or similar facility) to save the image of that data along with the image of the stamp.

This part of their privacy policy scared me off
"Stampworld.com have the right to disclose personal information to third parties whose behavior is not covered by this statement."
Stampworld is also a great way to search for topical or thematic stamps. I typed in a keyword of "chess" from the advanced search and it returned 1,800 stamps with the most recent of 2020. You can easily search words and their variations that may or may not be indexed in the major print catalogues.
Colnect and Stampworld are really powerful tools - isn’t technology grand?
I have sent in an addition to Stampworld before and a correction to a picture, both were gratefully excepted. I use Stampworld and Colnect to supplement my catalogue's especially as most of mine are well out of date.
I have no real interest in values so really haven't taken much notice of the prices on Stampworld.
I have been using it exclusively over the past 5 years. Pricing works for me too. I go with 10% of what they list, but I keep in mind that some countries are undervalued.
Colnect does not arrange the stamps by sets and for some reason does not appeal much to me.
I use it all the time as it shows the complete sets of stamps (well nearly all)It is definitely missing lots of stamps from certain countries.
One complaint ,I have sent them several images of missing stamps which they have not used why? as they never get in contact to let you know why or if there is a problem how to correct it
I would never buy at the prices quoted on their site!

Brian, there was a time, maybe 2 years ago when they sent e-mails around asking for input as to what can be done better. I also noticed a few glitches and problems here and there, but those were not addressed.
Still, for now it is a free resource. The amount of work that goes into a project like this is tremendous; I cannot fathom where they get the sponsors from.
The only real issue I have with the site recently is the terrible banners that start popping up at the bottom of the screen, so you cannot go to the next catalog page unless you click on those to close them. Sometimes you miss the 'x" button and , of course, you end up opening the ad that is conveniently placed right underneath.
But StampWorld must get paid by the number of clicks on those stupid ads.
Unlike this website these site are far from free, they are commercial site and making money on every visit and every click. Do not think that just because you are not seeing your email inbox filled with spam that your information is not being sold. It is like your phone recording everyplace you go and everyone you talk to and turning around and selling it other 3rd party companies. And then those 3rd party companies selling it again to others.
Even if you use a 'throw away' email address, they are placing many 'cookies' (text files) on your computer. Most computers have well over 10,000 cookie files. Cookies for your eBay info, cookies for your bank info, cookies for 90% of the website you visit and each contains small pieces about who you are, what you are interested in, how you pay for things, etc etc.
The more info they have on you, the more they can charge those companies wanting to show you those banner ads.

It is like the "Free TV" ads touting the no subscription fee over the air TV channels where they are pushing TV antennas. Most know they will see ads despite being call free.
You can be leary of websites like Stampworld but even the best have been hacked and often they do not even know it or will not admit it.
Agreed. But to be honest I am most concerned when sites sell the info to ‘third parties’. They lose control and disavow responsibility with ‘gee, we did not know that they were going to do THAT with your information’. Some of the biggest players have used the ‘3rd party’ excuse including Apple, Microsoft, and Google. Heck, even the State of South Carolina used this excuse when they sold the state drivers license database to a company which then turned the data over to a ‘third party’.
I am not paranoid about what I do online and truthfully would rather not see ads for products and services that I have no use for, but as someone who has previously been involved in data harvesting the lack of oversight and transparency allows a lot of abuse to occur.
And when you factor in a website which is on the other side of the globe, you lose almost all chance of any recourse.
I do not think that Colnet or StampWorld are bad guys, I think they are using a common online business model. If folks make fully informed decisions and understand that every visit and ever click are making these sites money, then all is good.

The biggest culprits in selling on your data are the Banks!!
I have used it on a number of occasions. The only WW physical set of catalogues I have are Scotts, and they do not show all the images. Therefore, this is when the site comes in very handy.

I take it you have not joined the site ,if you do you don't get the popups.

On Stampworld.com I bought a 12 month VIP membership which gives me the ability to make personal catalogs of each of my collections. I find this very useful, especially when looking at placing bids in our Auctions or buying from the Approval Books. I have the personal catalog for that country open on one side of my screen and the Auctions and Approval Books on the other so that I can check if I have a particular stamp or not. I also can check the catalog value against the min bid amount in the Auction. Sometimes some of our sellers can push the limit a little too close to the catalog value in my opinion and it is good to be able to make an informed decision as to whether I'll place a bid or not.
Regards ... Tim.
I must point out that Stampworld.com is not your usual catalogue like Scotts, Gibbons, Yvert Michel etc etc.
It is a selling platform!

I have join but have not paid membership or donated. I do not get popups, but I do have a popup blocker and I can make exceptions for a site where I need to not block popups.

I don't give plugs for other sites very often. I want to bring Stampworld.com to your attention as it is an incredible resource, especially for new collectors. Stampworld is basically an online stamp catalog. Their aim is to stay up to date with all stamps published in the world and have them in their catalog. I have been using Stampworld in conjunction with my Scott 2007 set. Together they are a great set of tools. Using Stampworld I can also catalog all the stamps that I have for a particular country. It gives me the total catalog value for that country. I find that they still have a few problems (like missing watermark images for Australian States) but on the whole it is great. I hope they keep going with it.
