Yep. I have two stock books (one for US and the other for worldwide), and two cover albums for "cool stuff".
Sounds like a really fun idea. That’s what collecting should be all about - collecting what you like best.
I have an album dedicated just for covers and postcards that I like - for no particular
reason other than I think they're cool.

In my opinion, everything we do should be ‘cool stuff’. I am no longer a ‘catalog lemming’. Having a catalog or album publisher controlling and dictating what and how we collect is ludicrous when you think about it.
I have been looking at collections since 1972 and frankly if I never see another Scott US National I would be fine. I find even those which contain high dollar and are incredibly complete to be fairly boring but show me your ‘cool stuff’ and I am intrigued. I love nothing more than sitting down with someone who goes through their cool stuff and tells me about it. The enthusiasm is always contagious and time passes quickly. Pull out just another pre-printed album organized by a catalog/album publisher and like every other one I have ever seen and you better include some single malt Scotch to keep me in place.
Of course dealers prefer pre-printed album and catalog organized collection since they can quickly and efficiently turn to the pages and sections which determine the value. And the mantra of many experienced hobbyists to those with less experience is ‘to buy a catalog’. Catalog publishers are not philatelic Gods, they do what they need to do to turn a buck. They operate on what is best for this year’s balance sheet and rarely give priority to what is best for the hobby long term. So why should we be slaves to their vision, why should be handcuffed to their ideas on how we enjoy our own hobby?
Do what makes you happiest, anytime someone else tries to tell how and what to collect ignore them. If you do this you will always be happy with the time and money you spend on your hobby.

That's a great idea!

Don, you're definitely right. While I collect world wide in a "formal" manner, if I were showing someone a piece of that collection, it would have been at their request. I would much rather show them the items that are in my "Cool Stuff" collection as I'm sure that there are items in there that many probably haven't seen. Now that generates conversation, not looking at the stamps that everyone else has!
Maybe some would post their COOL collection. A page or 2. I looked at Roys and it is very well done and interesting.

I have a similar album indeed called “Cool Stuff” and as said it’s what I’d show first to noncollectors. It’s mostly interesting covers and cards. I did a presentation of it at a club meeting awhile back,
Hi all,
I decided to make an album of random cool stuff. I guess the "topic" would be "cool things", although it is a bit subjective on my part!
No rhyme or reason, just stamps that look cool to me for whatever reason. To me this idea personifies collecting to some extent.
I think the album's randomness is what it will make it fun to work on, and possibly the MOST interesting to "non-collectors". I figure if it's all over the map, so to speak, it would be quite interesting to "non-collectors", although that is not my primary goal, it could be a neat side effect.
I am just using White Ace Quadrille pages, black stamp mounts and will probably print out a little "information area" beneath each stamp. It's still a work in progress in my mind. But I do have the White Ace pages coming in the mail.
Anyone do anything like this? Kind of break away from the more themed albums and just do a crazy/"no rules" album?
