The 1d blue looks genuine. Is there no trace of a watermark, even partially?
The 2d red is definitely a forgery
Intriguing, because I'm sure it's genuine. Have you used fluid on it?
Watermark fluid, or even Shellite from the hardware store, evaporates and doesn't affect the gum. I use it all the time (ventilated room, no naked flames of course!!)
I have got Shellite I use it to get Self adhesive stamps off paper I use to use acetone to check for watermarks, lost my bottle through evaporation.
I will give Shellite a go and see if I can get a result.
Brian
Please try it on a junky stamp first
Omg, you guys are freaking me out! I never heard of Shellite so i googled. Wiki says “Shellite also known as Tridite is an explosive mixture of picric acid and dinitrophenol or picric acid and hexanitrodiphenylamine in a ratio of 70/30.” yikes!
We're Australian. They breed 'em tough down here.......
Crocodile Dundee style philately, eh? . Bet you cut your mounts with a BIG knife, too!
Shellite in Australia is essentially lighter fuel for gas stoves and lights. You can buy it at supermarkets. Tridite (also called Shellite) is a different substance altogether. Aren't common names wonderful.
Cheers, oldmanemu.
